Buddy is going to toss a 700r and a 205np, he bought it to put into a Toyota with all GM running gear. project didnt happen, tried to sell the trans and TC but no buyers. He said he would give it to me. Worse comes to worse I can scrap it, lol.

Thought about having it rebuilt and souped up and then when I go to do motor swap next year, I have a good trans to stuff back in there. but not sure if I want to do that. Im guessing trannys dont go back from sitting do they?

Ideas, comments, etc.

wish i had that setup. dident know they made a 27 spline np205? thought it was 10 or 32 spline.

Ill probably pick it up, since its free, ill have to check the Transfer case to see if it is 205, he said it is.

If it was bolted up to a 205 then it will probably have a custom length output shaft, check the stickout length on the shaft and compare to the stock 700. That shaft itself sells for over $150 so that would be worth keeping in my opinion.

Auto trannys can go bad from sitting.
Without the oil circulating the seals can dry up and crack and the clutch facings can dry out. But it usually takes a year or so.
A 205 could also have problems if there is any trace of moisture in the system the exposed gears and bearings could rust.

A fellow I know with a transmission shop has occasion to store stuff. He fills the transmissions and transfer cases all the way to the top with cheap transmission fluid or oil when he knows it going to sit for a while.
He drains them and refills them with the good stuff before he puts them in service.

He filters the storage oil through a paint strainer and reuses it for storing other parts.

I don't know if it helps or hurts, but he seems to get away with it.

This tranny has been outside in a plastic bin container, so not sure how it looks inside. Its been sitting out for over a year I know of , maybe 2 years.

damnit, thought I hit submit, lol
I think you did.
Sitting that long, should not bother the 205 all that much unless it was under water or full of water.
The transmission is iffy, but if it was OK when taken out, you could probably just overfill it with fluid and it would soften the seals again.

Either way, free is good.

The best transmission Ive ever had was a TH350 that had sat for 10+ years.

Hmmm, not sure if that says good things about the TH350 you had, or bad things about the rest of your transmissions.............:haha:

Umm... YES!!!! Why not free is awesome! If you never used it somebody on here could prolly, if not theres always scrap value if you must..
