Free beater...hoping to make it run better

Picked up an 86 Celica GT for free yesterday. It's not a bad car but has some issues obviously.

It's fuel injected and a 5 speed and seems to have decent power. What it does is buck under part throttle in first and second gear. Full throttle is fine, idle is fine but getting it going can be a pain. No noticable vacuum leaks, idle is right around 600 rpm, fires right up and full throttle it pulls good and strong.

Anyone know their Toyota's? I'm thinking maybe the EGR is bad or something...just not sure.

Check the plugs. I had an 88 Ranger that would act that way and would have erratic idle occasionally. I would start there. Wires too since you are already there.

Just change the plugs/cap/rotor/wires and it should be good. My pickup was doing the same thing until i couldnt stand driving arround full throttle all the time.

One more question, is it an 86 or an 86.5? Basically is it still a RWD car or is it FWD?

It's front wheel drive. I'll try some plugs and stuff and see what happens. Thanks!

One more thing i rembered that i did, i advanced the timing, helped out in pretty much every aspect, until i went to far.
