My thoughts exactly. I couldn't pass on anything free, let alone something this usefull. Should be a good grunt worker for me. No chance for hwy driving with this one tho:doah:
 
Just how in the hell did you get a free truck? Does it have a title?
 
Yep, it's got a title.

My dad and brother own a lawn and landscaping business in town, and just bought out a smaller business. This was the truck the guy was using to haul his equipment around. They were just going to scrap it, so I jumped on it. For them to tag the truck would have cost the business around $200 since it was for commercial use. And in order to sell the truck they would have had to tag it first. They said it just wasn't worth messing with.

My buddy just bought one of those dump beds. Probably about the same vintage/condition as yours. He thought he got a great deal at $1000. Was prepared to pay more. So, it's got some value on the resale market.
 
Those are good trucks. Use ford parts for the coolant temp sensor, and throttle position sensor though. The parts store ones don't last. I've already lost that battle.

Also watch for the fuel tank switching valve to fail. It will allow whichever tank being used to fill the other. I learned thst the hard way too, when my rear tank was rotted out.
 
A dump bed insert like that one sells for 1500+ bucks around here,maybe 2K now,I priced one years ago,and found putting a "real" used dump bed on the truck was cheaper!...

I'm not too much of a Ford fan--but if I saw a 1980's-90's F-150 or F-250 4x4 with the 300 six and a 5 speed,I'd be highly tempted to own it,especially if it was cheap...few exist here any more--the few left that aren't rotted or junk for sale go for top dollar,and the rest of the owners who have one dont want to part with it..Fords seem to not rust away as bad as GM's around here..

I am going to keep the dump bed in there for now and see how I like it.

I did get the upper part off today, looks mucho better:thumb:

We had a 92 F150 300 I-6 Auto 4x4 that we bought as a parts truck for the 94 F250. This halfton had a perfect body, but 400-some thousand miles, we ended it driving it and not tearing the body off it. That truck ran like a top, we took it on more than a few trips that were over a thousand miles, and that truck never broke a sweat. Only issues we had with it were that the motor mounts all died in the same day, and we had to limp it home with a charging rhino under the hood, the second was that the brake line going from the front to the rear rusted out, so we just decided to crimp it off, then during the winter and there was ice on the road, and we found that truck would push itself forward while holding the brakes just by being in drive.

We ended up selling that truck to one of my dad's friend's dad, and he's still driving it every day.
 
Nice score! I've put some happy miles behind a very similar truck. Loved it dearly. I will agree about running the 4-speed on the highway, though. :haha:

Funny you say this. I just drove it on the highway tonight to see how it would do. It has 235/85R16's on it, which are a couple inches taller than factory. It actually cruised at about 2,100 rpm's at 70mph, not too bad if you ask me.
 
Most v8 trucks had 3.55s, but I've heard of a lot of 6 cylinder trucks having higher gears too. 3.08 comes to mind, but I've never cared or payed attention.

The 3.55s in my 89 are leaving for 3.90, or 4.10s.

Bringing this one back up because fate has brought me back from the deep dark depths of Ford-ism:woot:

Trading the old Ferd for a 2000 CC LWB 2wd 6.5 3500 OBS Chebby:thumb:

I have been wanting a 2wd to do a solid axle swap on for a while, and looks like a got one.

It has 150k miles and runs great. All 12,000 feet of lenght are rust free. The bed is red and white 2 tone, and the cab is all white. So there will be some repainting at some point.

I am going to pick it up tonight, so I will get some pictures on here as soon as I can.
