OK, here is the deal. My cousin, Baitfish2 has a '91 1500 2wd. I have saved that truck about 4 times.
He will get a new truck, and want to sell or just junk 'Ol Blue. I will talk him out of it, and pretty soon, it saves the day.

Son came home on leave from Iraq, needed something to drive, crank up 'Ol Blue.
Daughter's car craps out, she drove 'Ol Blue for a couple of weeks.

Wife's medication causes her to pass out and roll his main truck about 3 times, ( She was pretty much embedded in the cab, took them 30 minutes to get her out, only some bruises and a scratched arm) 'Ol Blue got him back and forth to work until the insurance replaced his truck.

Finally, when his regular truck was having problems about 2 years ago, he was headed into work in, you guessed it, 'Ol Blue.
The tank on one side of the rad split, and he did not notice anything wrong until the knocking noise over rode the radio.
I got one of my wrecker guys to go get the truck. The 350 got so hot that the plastic center of the temp sender melted.

We changed the oil, tried cranking it with no water. It fired right up, ran good.
So, we put a rad on it, and it went back to work. He swore that it had more power than before.
I think someone here suggested that it had annealed the rings and made them have less friction.

Then, the transmission started acting up, finally lost a gear. He decided that it had gotten too hot also.
The entire steering system except for the gear box had just been replaced, and everything else was working pretty good.
He decided to try rebuilding the tranny himself with my help.

We dropped the tranny, used my boom truck to pull the engine. Put it on a stand, pulled the heads.
Engine looked excellent. He took the heads down to get them rebuilt, and all was on track for a rebuild.

Then, like so many of his ideas, it just died.
He sold the heads, the transmission is still sitting in my wheelbarrow in the shed.
He needed some door parts for his newer truck, came over and stripped out the passenger side door.

Yesterday, he showed up, we pulled Blue out of the field, and started stripping it.
It goes to the crusher Wed. or Thurs. He has everything off it he wants, and wants to leave anything with any weight to speak of on it.

But, I see trim parts, side mirrors, all kinds of stuff that other folks might want.

So, I took some pics, and here they are.
Bearing in mind that I am slightly limited by my leg, and have been having some kind of an issue with my right hand for the past week or so,
if anybody sees something worth the shipping, let me know and I will try to save it.

The heavy stuff, like the axle, he wants to leave for weight. But if I pull something off and he gripes, so what.
The radio was an aftermarket Blaupluket, he kept that.
I pulled the computer out from behind the glove compartment, got all the door switches, and the relays from behind the radio.

My PM box is about full, so if you don't post here, and get a box full message, just hang on and I will make some space.

Everything is "as is", and all I want is shipping. I have no dog in this hunt, and don't intend to charge anything.

Since most everything is probably widely available in junkyards locally, I doubt I will get many takers.
I just did not want something useful to go to the crusher if I could help it.

One good thing, I got the throttle body, and will be taking it apart soon. I have been trying to advise folks here how to fix theirs for several years now, its about time I actually see what one looks like..........

I have a 94, I'll take the mirrors if you still got them and the chrome wheel trim rings... let me know on shipping to 91016

also on the firewall pass side there is a plastic cover that covers some wiring, I lost mine, don't really need it it but if you got that that would be cool too

I know the cover you are talking about, it may be gone. I'll check. Never pulled the mirrors off that model before, does the plastic trim pop off the door, or can I just take the three nuts loose from inside?

Interested in the steering wheel and horn if it's still available. Will pm you as well

Ok,an update, and I need to back up and punt.

First, the mirrors are off. I did not take the mounts off the door. I took the plastic trim off and took the two clamp screws out.
If you need the mounts, I'll have to try to figure out how to get those stupid little nuts out of the door.
My Sawzall may wail tomorrow.

The driver side mirror is showing some signs of "silver rot" along the edges. The passenger side looks good. If I can figure out a way to take a decent picture of a mirror, I'll try to post some tomorrow.
Chrome rings are off, look OK. Pics of them too.
The plastic cover off the firewall was gone like I remembered, but I found it in the back and it even had the funky plastic nuts with it.

Now, at this point, I need to make a slight change. I did not really expect to get any takers.
So, here is the change.

Any parts will be shipped from 32405.
Instead of me trying to figure out everybody's shipping charge all over the country, anybody who wants something, just go online to UPS, Fedex, or the USSnail site, make a guess as to the weight, and see if its worth the shipping charges to you.

I have a refrigeration scale around here somewhere that is pretty accurate, so I will be able to get you a closer weight later.

I also do not want to ship out anything until I can get some good pics of it. Even though I am not charging, there is still going to be the shipping charge, and I don't want anyone to get junk thy can't use.

My intention at this point, is to put a copy of the shipping charge in the box as I send it off.
That is what you will owe me, not any more than that.

I'm doing this as a favor to the K5 brotherhood, and because I hate to see useful stuff go to waste.

As for the steering wheel, I'll see what I can do. We are going to need some way to steer it onto the trailer, maybe I can loosen it and pull it after we get it loaded.

I'll see.

Right now, I am done with working on it tonight. Its about 95 degrees with about 99% humidity out there.
I can stand that, but there is a massive flock of mosquitoes chasing me around.

I would put on my Skeeter suit from turkey hunting, but its too hot to wear it out there.

So, I am in the house letting the 4 ton water to air heat pump do its thing.

Damn if you were closer Id take the truck for scrap price...

I really want to do a 2wd standard cab shortbed gmt400 with a Roller vortec 327 TPI truck for a secondary vehicle at some point...

PM sent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn if you were closer Id take the truck for scrap price...

Yeah, I know. Even though its 2wd, its actually in good physical shape. Some sheet metal dents and bends, but not much in the way of rust.

I run across things like this from time to time down here, but I am just too far out of the K5 loop.

Looks like the seats may have a home, and maybe the grill and front turn signal lenses.

Although I'm afraid the turn signals might not be worth it. I'll check tomorrow.

The dent in the front that makes the hood bulge slightly has a funny story.
His son was home on leave, and owned a drop top Jeep. He and some buddys were off doing something and he had left the Jeep parked outside with the top down.
The son realized that it was going to rain, and called his sister to ask if she would move the Jeep under the carport.

Those two are very tight, and she said she would be glad to. Problem was, 'Ol Blue was in the way, and the battery was dead.
So, she took it out of park, and pushed it out of the way.

Just a few feet too far.........

It started rolling down a hill headed towards a big pine tree. She took off after it, followed closely by their big black Lab, who figured she had come up with a fun new game.

She got the door open, and was half way inside going for the brake when it hit the tree.
Bounced her out the door and across the yard. She was fine, just a bruise or two, but the dog figured she was dead and started howling.

When she sat up, the dog was so delighted, he jumped on her and almost broke her nose.

I'm actually going to miss that truck.
Lots of memories.
I have pulled it out of more bogs..........
Dove in headfirst through the passenger window after my rifle when a buck stepped into the road.
And that was the slick bedlined bed I fell out of when I whirled to shoot a dove, and managed to nail the dove while upside down in midair.

OK, quick update. I have not heard from baitfish2, don't know what schedule he is on. The grill and turn signals have been removed. Don't know if they will be worth shipping.
Grill is cracked, turn signals are slightly yellowed.

Horn button is off, nut is off the steering, but my puller would not fit.
I will try to pick up some longer bolts tomorrow.

Seats are still in the truck, forgot about them. I worked on it some today, until I got so hot I had to quit.

Just heard from baitfish, he is coming tomorrow early. I will have to scramble to get the seat and steering wheel off.

I'll see what I can do.

How bad is grill can you snap a pic? My turn sigs are broke lose not sure it it is grill or them, thanks

As soon as the truck leaves and I get a couple of minutes, I will be posting pics of all the parts.
Like I said, I don't want anybody to get stuck with paying for shipping something they can't use.

The grill is.......usable. Its cracked where you see the hood bulged up on front, and the bottom mount is broken off inside.
The pics should show everything.
I am going to try to sneak out there now and get some more stuff loose if I can keep my feet on the ground.

Darn Skeeters will pick you up and fly away with you if you don't watch out.........

Unless someone posts a request tonight that I can get easy, this is the final report until the pics.
The steering wheel is off and just slid back on enough to steer it onto the trailer tomorrow.
Then I will set it aside for pics.
The seat is going to go with the truck. Nothing is going to get that sucker out short of a cutting torch.
Its worn, but a comfortable seat. But the bolts are frozen tight. I got the first one loose, and it turned about 3 turns and then locked up solid.
By that time, both arms were black with skeeters.

Very few mechanical things beat me long term. If I had tomorrow to work on it, I could get that seat out.
But its worth your life to stick your head out now.

We have been getting a lot of rain and there have been several hatches. They are ravenous and will suck you dry if you stay out there for long.

Not to mention I lost a friend to West Nile Virus a few years back.

And, to tell the truth, the seat is worth taking out and putting in another truck sitting nearby, but I doubt its worth the shipping cost......

I have been concentrating on just getting the pieces off, because I did not know how long I had to strip it.
After it leaves tomorrow, I can slow down and evaluate the pieces.

Found the driver side arm rest............Trust me, it ain't usable.

Of course, this is not my only project going on now. In addition to some deals to try to make me some money, I just got through pulling the entire front off the pontoon boat to repair it.
They might jump up and want to go fishing this weekend, and it would help if the whole boat is there.........

OK, 'Ol Blue is gone. And now for the final tally..........................................$301!!.

Yep, 9 cents a pound.

Now it did not have the engine and tranny in, and off the top of my head I don't know what a 350 and a 700R4 weigh.
But, lets say 400 pounds, and that they were paying 10 cents a pound for that.
So, before he stripped it and took the running engine out, it was worth, as scrap, $340.........

Even though it was a Chevy and 2wd, I would have paid him that much for that truck.
The bolt holding the lines to the compressor worked a little loose and one of the O rings started leaking, so the AC had quit.
But it was all still good, and that thing would freeze you out when it was working. Other than that, and the fact it had 200K on it, it was in good shape.

Oh well, not my business..........

Now for my part.
I needed to upload several pics, so I opened a photobucket account.
Here is the link.

http://s1059.photobucket.com/albums/t438/OlBlueK5/

I did not upload the ones already here in this thread.

NOTES:

I tried to show the cracked places on the grill. The overall structure is sound, and the broken pieces are still attached, and mostly covered by the hood. They could be mended with some Plas-T-Pair, or some other kind of glue.
There are two center mounts, and the bottom one is broken off and missing.

Somehow, I managed to miss taking a pic of the driver side orange reflector which is damaged.
But there is a good shot of it in this thread along with the damage of that corner.

The pics of the turn signals did not turn out as good as I had hoped. But maybe you can get the idea.
If yours are loose, its probably the grill, since that is what they screw into.

The chrome rings don't photo well either. But you can see that a couple of shinier than the others.
I suspect they would polish up, but have not tried.
I deliberately took pics of all the rust on them I could find. Its all surface rust, practically no pitting, and no rust on the shiny part that I could see.

I'm not sure its possible to take a good pic of a mirror. The frame and hard parts are good, but there is a lot of "silver rot" on the back side of both. The passenger side is better than the driver.
I was not able to get the mount off the truck. So, I made sure to take pics of the shaft that is left.
If your truck has the mounts like in that one pic, then these mirrors will fit.

The steering wheel is about the best part. I'm not sure why, but the horn button is a slightly loose fit.
All the snaps seem to be there, and you can feel it slightly snap into place, but it is real easy to pull out.
The darn nut and safety clip went with the truck. I forgot and left them on the front seat.
I really want anyone getting these parts to be happy. They are just outside, and pics are free.
If you have questions or want a different view, just say the word. I can also wander out and take measurements if needed.
I have not weighed any of the parts yet, will try to do that when you say you want them.
I have nothing in them so far other than a little sweat, so if you decide you can't use them, no problem.
I'll toss them in the corner, and somebody will need them one of these days.

I did not take my camera with me to the scrap yard. I'm real sorry I didn't.

Let me go on record here and now and say I could never own, or even work at, a scrap yard like this one.
I would never leave.

As we rode through to 'Ol Blue's final resting place, I was almost drooling. Engines stacked 30 feet high. Piles of transmissions, every kind of wheel you could imagine. Several small gas or diesel generators. Some kind of truck winch just sitting there on the ground.
Not a Warn, looked like a Mile Marker, or something similar. The shift lever was chrome, came up, made a right angle turn and had a ball on the end.

Several trucks that looked better than the one we were riding in. Did not see a K5, but would not doubt there was one.

It was enough to make an old packrat and scrounger like me cry.

Another couple of notes.
First, Metro, I walked by the grill a while ago, and noticed that the turn signals are held in by some plastic inserts in the grill. The grill its self is not what the screws go into.
The inserts are in this grill, and they are in fairly good shape. But, being plastic, I am not sure that they could be removed and put back in successfully. But, I am sure they are available from somewhere.
So, if your grill is in good shape and all you want to do is get the turn signals to stay in, you might want to check into the inserts instead of the whole grill.

Of course, if you need the grill anyway........

Now, a note to the Sysops.

In looking over this thread, I realized it has come perilously close to posting stuff for sale in a nonsale area.

My original idea, was to post what I had, with pics, and then let anyone that wanted parts to PM me.
But, when they did, I mentioned it here so that others would see what was spoken for.
That let things get slightly out of control.

In fact, had it not been for the urgency of this, since the truck was going away real soon, I would have done it differently.

No matter the reason, I really pushed the boundaries, and for that I apologize.
And I appreciate your tolerance.

Most of the rest of this will mostly occur with PMs..........OK, that does not look right........

Anyway, I'll try not to let anything like this happen again.

Unless there is a problem, I will continue to post any interesting looking vehicles I happen to see for sale, but the extent of that will be some pics and a phone number.
Don't see all that many, but sometimes........

Now I have to go clean out some of my inbox in case anyone wants to send me anything......

Well I saw it as a hey can any of you use any parts for free. It was a brother being a true brother and looking out for his other brothers!

And yes mine is busted on the side bad.
