on the crapper...
I've got a weeping freeze plug or two. I've replaced them before, but wanted to see if anybody had any fancy tricks.

My usual MO is to pound a screwdriver into the center of the freeze plug and pry it out. Clean up the hole and tap a new one in. (obviously I drain the coolant first).

That's pretty much what I've done in the past. Just make sure you use quality freeze plugs. It's been awhile but I think I used the brass plugs- IIRC, the factory galvanized plugs are more prone to rusting out........:thumb:

Remove them just as you said, make sure the hole is clean and dry then apply some hi-tack brush on sealer to the hole and install the new BRASS plugs.

What I normally do, is take a pry bar and tap on the side of the plug, this will usually rotate the plug, and then you can pull it out with a pair of pliers.

I keep adding water to the motor , then when I get another rig running to drive , it sits there until I can get around to pulling the motor to get the ones behind the flexplate

If you drop your tranny, you can just barely get to them. Ask me how I know..........:doah: :doah:

Getting them out is easy. Replacing them is the hard part.....

I just had the transmission out too. :doah:

I don't think those ones are leaking - I'd rather replace them all at the same time - but those are gonna have to wait. :(

If it's anything other than a SBC 400 then there are 8 in total, some 400's have 10.
