hello, I am new to this thread, I just encountered a major electrical issue on my 84 k5 blazer, I was working on the plow assembly ( it has a western plow that is hooked directly to battery) I walked away for a minute came back and plow motor was running tried to shut it off and couldn't, my volt gauge was pegged out at 18 and smoke coming from under dash, right side of steering wheel, now i have no ignition power, battery still good and headlights work but no power anywhere else, I see a black box under dash with a circuit board, did I possibly fry that or is there somewhere else to look?

Sounds like you fried one of the fusible link wires. There is one from the starter that goes up the the terminal block on the firewall then IIRC there is another that goes either from that block to the inside cab or to the alternator. When one of those burn up you'll lose all power that is related to the ignition switch.

what Scott said... take a test light and start checking outward from the battery for power... battery, down at the starter post, than it goes up to a junction block by the brake booster with a couple posts on it, if you have no power there, ya blew a fusable link off the starter... than it goes thru the firewall to the fuseblock... while in there, check all your standard fuses too.. sounds like the plow controller nuked itself or somethng like that..

ya, you hit that right on! I checked the junction block next to brake booster and sure enough fusible link melted, there is two 12 gauge wires gong into one fuse then from fuse to junction terminal is where it melted, going to splice in new wire, you guys have any idea what size inline fuse two use as a replacement, thanks for the infro.

Replace the fusible link with another correctly sized fusible link. Your local auto parts store should carry it.

Im also having this same issue. No power to cab at all. Headlights and dome lights work, nothing else. Im not very good at electrical but I checked battery voltage,it was fine. than checked to see if I had power at alternator and starter with test light lit up on both areas. I then checked junction box on firewall and only one side is showing power. Is that right or should both sides have power? I appreciate any help, thanks
