Are the front 10 bolts c-clip axles just like the rear? Fixing to install a mini-spool and cant remember from the gear install...

Thanks!

nope full floater .

and why a mini spool in a 10 bolt ? thats real hard on them in stock form . and if no hydro assist steering then have fun turning the wheels with a spool in the front end .

Its the cheapest option until i can source a d60 thats not assinine in price. Plus its main use right now is snow and getting to some fishin spots.

:yikes::doah::rotfl::rotfl:

sorry locked front in the snow good luck . i use to run a detroit locker in the rear and did it for 1 snow season and removed it for a selectable locker . had bad time keeping it stright and worse on side hills .

Well a locker and the minispool will be better than having 2wd when locked in 4wd  id hope that the 35s would help in the snow too

i live in the snow belt of the finger lakes in upstate new york . i live playing in the snow .

do what you wish . but this kind of snow wheeling info and 10 bolts with lockers / spools has been covered a lot here .

but what ever you pick / do we are here to support you and help . :waytogo:

Spartan Locker bro.
I have a Power trax no spin in the 12b rear and a Spartan locker in the dana 44 front axle of my m1009.
It takes a different kind of driving style in snow and on ice.
For instance; a slick sidehill.
You point the front end higher than yoy would with an open diff and crab walk it across.
In tight turns up steep hills; you let off the throttle momentarily to get the front locker to disengage and steer tighter.
I've run front and rear mechanical lockers in all three Blazers.
It is an adjustmemt for sure.
But offers superior traction in a majority of situations but with a few handling quirks in a minority of situations.

The one really bad thing with a rear locker that can happen is; one rear tire going flat and not noticing until in a tight corner under power.. it makes the oak trees attack your front bumper.

As for highway use on snowy or icy roadway; a front locker causes understeer.
Sometimes i switch back and forth between 2hi and 4hi on really icy days when alternating between ice and dry pavement makes the truck squirelly.
Once in 2 wd the front locker is invisible.
Even with hubs locked in 2wd the worst you'll get is a heavy ratchet noise on a u-turn with zero handling effects.

I would put a Spartan locker up front before a spool.

There is lots of info on disassembling the front 10b/44’s.
Here is the synopsis:
Take Hub bolts out and remove hub selector
Remove c-clip on axle stub and big snap ring in hub body
Remove hub guts
Remove axle nut(need 4 prong tool) it’s tight
Remove axle nut washer and inner axle nut
Remove caliper
Remove rotor and wheel bearings.
Remove small c clip on stub shaft at spindle
Remove knuckle nuts to get dust shield and spindle off.
May need to beat on spindle with rubber mallet
Slide axles out

^Pretty much all there is to it. Make sure you're careful with the spindles, they stick and you don't want to damage them. Unless it's strictly an off road vehicle, as others have said snow and a spool is a bad combination-an open front will track better and be a lot easier to drive. I pulled out the lunchbox locker that came in mine because it made driving on snowy streets harder than it had to be.

Every time, lol. Always one that says a spool is better than nothing, one or two that says it's fine, and a bunch of people that say a front spool/locker in snow and mud is a bad idea :haha:

Just went through this with a buddy...he was going to weld the front, then I convinced him to spool it because I knew what the end result was going to be. He took it out after a week :haha:

and that is exactly why i went ARB for my 2 axles on the 1 project build .

A limited skip with the hubs locked is a bioch to steer, unless it is in 4 wheel drive.

My vote is a spool will work just fine. Just dont lock one hub when icy. Hydraulic steering is a must though.

If you can afford it than get a selectable locker. I will on my next axle rebuild.
