front 52' Q

I just recently saw a thread or post in here asking the question of axel relocation but search turned up nothing, so help would be appreciated.

Is it necessary to relocate the axel forward(1.5"?) when swapping 52's to the front?
Is it possible to retain the stock axel location?

What are the pros/cons to retaining the stock location?
I realize that cross-over is ideal, and will probably eventually happen. But not in this stage of the project.

It's not absolutely necessary to move the axle forward.

If you keep the stock axle location, you can use your stock steering but I really wouldn't recommend it.

why is it not recommended? I didn't see anything in the 52" swap thread that answered my question. I read them all before I posted, but I'll look again,thanks.

I'd be doing it for lift more than flex, since there are virtually no rock gardens for crawling in Michigan. We've got mud,sand,and two-tracks.Some flex would be nice,but extreme flex isn't needed in my situation.

your going to have lots of flex with the 52" springs. when you have lots of flex, stock steering will not allow you to steer, since the draglink is so short. it can be done, but your really limiting yourself.

If you don't need extreme flex, then you don't need 52's. A set of 4-6 inch lift springs would be a much better bet. Cheaper and easier in the long run.
