Front axle binding

I have a 1988 GMC Jimmy GMC 10 bolt front end. I bought it as a project but it didn't come with a front driveshaft and it drove just fine no issues but once I installed a new driveshaft I get a bad binding feeling. when I watch the wheels the right wheel seems to want to lose traction and spin faster than the left wheel. the only thing I can thinkeep of is my gears are messes up but I'm not familiar with these models I don't know if they use spider gears in the carrier or if it's open, or if I can be something else.

Specs. I believe 6in lift with 35x12.5x15 tires non lockable hubs

I'm going to be tearing into the difference this weekend but any info before I start will be appreciated

I assume that you are off road with the t-case locked in to get this problem ? 2wd operation shouldn't care.
It sounds to me like the axle ratio does not match front to rear. I have seen that happen a couple of times. I would suspect with that size tire, the previous owner killed the rear end, then just found one without getting the correct ratio.

It happens on asphalt in 2wd 4hi 4lo I haven't tried it on dirt yet

Well then I would suspect 2 problems .
First, by no lockable hubs, I believe that you still have the 'automatic ' hubs and they haven't unlocked . I would recommend some good manual hubs. Maybe you can find a good used set.

Second , I think that there is something wrong that you think that it is in 2wd, but it is still locked in 4WD. I wonder if there is an internal problem in the case, or just a shifter broken. Either way , the NP208 is a very easy transfer case to work on.

Thanks for the advice when I open the diff I'll look at the hubs and check that out

I know that you are planning to tear into it anyway , but I assume that you know that the hubs will come apart without messing with the differential .
I would still want to know if maybe the spider gears got welded or what's up in there . But I would pull the front driveshaft back out , check to see if the t-case has 2wd. Then try to turn the front axle yoke to see if the hubs are stuck.
After that, if you jack up one from the tire, it should spin if the diff is open.

Sorry if I am telling you stuff that you know.

Yeah I just got it so I need to look at the gears to make sure they are good so it's on the to do list anyways but I'm pretty sure it's a np208 so it should have 2wd
