So while I'm shopping for a new blazer, my better half has made the request that I get one with a bench front seat. she likes to sleep on my arm on long drives and with buckets in a blazer... thats a longggggg way to lean. :doah:

So, we all know they never came from the factory like that, but I was wondering if anyone ever swapped one in.

I'm assuming bolting in a front bench from a pickup would work, but wouldnt flip forward right to gain access to the rear seat. meaning you'd have to crawl over the front seat, or get in from the back, and crawl over the seat back.

option two that I was brain storming, would be to get a third seat, take the cover off, and then cut a section out of the middle, so it would fit in between the two front seats. weld and glue the two halves back together, and have an upholstery shop modify the cover to fit again. then make a bracket that ties the center seat to the two outter seats, in effect, making a sort of 40/20/40 front bench. that would still flip forward on the ends to allow access to the rear bench through the side doors. while the center section was stationary.

thoughts?

EDIT - this would likely be for a 2nd or 3rd gen rig. '73-'80 year range. but a first gen would be the dream.

Pick up floors and Burb floors are not flat, blazer floors are. So a bench seat is not a bolt in. Hit the wrecking yards find a comfy bench modify to fit. I did a newer 60/40 bench for a buddy wasn't hard at all

Ram

I have a bench seat from a Dodge Ram pickup, circa 200:waytogo:6-08 in my 89 K-5. No power option (manual sliders), 60/40 split, with a fold up/down center console (seats 3 when up). It was an easy bolt in and is very comfortable. Female ends of the seat belts were compatable wih my Blazer belts (added bonus).

i did the oposet easy in my truck .

removed bench from both factory slide rails.

took 1"x1" square tube and made frame and welded to sliders. then welded / or can be bolted down seats from 88-up truck and made mounts for center console .

i left the sliders on buckets so i could get little lift and also adjust each seat seperate . and with factory bench slider inplace you can move whole thing up as 1 unit.

you could do almost the same thing inreverse order to get a bench seat.

and my bonus to this mod was MUCH better angle sitting and driving from lift hight diffrence . my knee's are at 45* now and not a 90* angle much better to drive and can see over hood better.
