well im tired of my bucket seats in the 86 k5 and i have always loved the feel of an old bench seat out of an 80's truck.

now i am worried that if i put a bench seat in i will get tossed around even with a seat belt on when 4wheeling and also no center console for stuff.

now anybody got an idea for what to use? i like the old seat feel and looks so i dont know about going to a newer truck seat but i also dont know if the bench will keep me comfortable in 4wheeling situations.

any ideas?

I can't post links.. but go to JCWhitney and look at their universal Truck/SUV seats. They have a few where the center jump seat folds down to give you two buckets w/ a cup holder or folds up when you're not wheeling to give you the bench look. I think APC used to make one similar but it had more of a racing seat which would probably be better for wheeling

You could also look for some late model denali/tahoe second row seats.. they have a similar set up. And you might be able to find them in a junkyard for cheap.

I'd like tyo see some pics of application when all done I too was leaning towards bench seat. But when I put in the Doubler I might have issues....

I always liked the 94-01 Dodge Ram benches and split benches. My '99 Ram 1500 had one and not only was it comfy but it had wide range of motion so you could get behind it easily. Might work well for a Blazer if it fits.

i used to have a 60/40 split bench from a 90 extended cab pickup in my blazer. using the brackets that came on the seats just had to drill a few holes and bolt em in.

this is the only pic o could find with both seats in, back in 92 when i was in high school

I just put a bench from an 86 PU in my 90 blazer, I can try to get pics if you want. It is to me way more comfortable than the stock buckets (given mine where wore as far as the foam goes) but even in wheeling situations I like it better, however if I was doing soley say rockcrawling or hill climbs then I would prefer racing buckets, but for trail riding I love it, the only complaint I have is the loss of the cupholders, but LMC has some that fit in the factory ashtray location so.....

I mounted flip down boat cup holders to my dash cover on Big Ugly.

how comfy were those seats out of the 90?

pretty good considering its a bench. not nearly as comfy as the 96-99 buckets, or the 2000-06 buckets.

I had those same seats as living room furniture, lol. They were from an '88 or '89 without head rests. Spent many hours in the driver seat while watching TV, it was fairly comfy.

One seat option to consider is the 40-20-40 split bench seat from a '99-early '07 Silverado/Sierra with the integrated seat belts. Here's a pic of the seats I'm talking about. Keep in mind that these have custom upholstery done to them:

I've seen it mentioned before, so...

No hijack intended, but when integrated belts are used, doesn't the flooring need to be strengthened to compensate, since the full load of the seat belts will be handled by the floor?

No worries. You make a good valid point. From what I've been told by people that have put those seats in a K5, the floor will have to be reinforced for this mod to work properly.

But reinforced, how? Just plate over the stock floor to make it stronger? I need new seats, mine are flat as paper.

I would imagine some sort of load bearing plate to distribute the force or even a crossmember under the floor would be needed.

If it were me I would vote on going with a crossmember for safety but it would require a lot more work

I was thinking along those lines as well. Hopefully I get the front seats from a 08 Chevy, I know they are comfy (I have an 09, duh...), and it's a hell of a deal at $250 for nearly brand new seats. Dude just needs to get back to me...

That is a heck of a deal. I'd be jumping on it too. :D
