No im not going to run them on any truck of mine....

But driving tractor trailer and spending time in a truck shop (my friend owns), I see alot of rigs (straight trucks-ie: dump trucks trash trucks etc and tractors themselves); alot of rigs have some sort of block under there front leaf springs or on top of the I-beams... This running them succsessfully, with an up to and including a total combined 80k pounds....


(it is legal to use them in my state on the front) and just curious as to why the smaller trucks arent suggested to use them...

(i know the main side loading issue and they can spit out00but they have nothing on a tractor trailer rig)
 
Do the ones on semis bolt to the leaf pack like a zero rate? I would guess that's how they get away with it because it's essentially part of the leaf pack at that point.
 
I'm guessing the dump trucks got "dropped" I-beam axles, like this:

On an axle lika that, it's no problem to put blocks between the axle and springs.
It's the vertical distance between the center of the wheel to the leaf spring that is the important factor.

And it doesn't matter much if it's bolted to the spring pack or not.
That center bolt is mainly there to keep it together until you've tightened the U-bolts.
 
Ive seen bigger blocls then that but yes thats about right.. some bolt one some dont. Seen anywhere from 1" block to 4 inch depending on the drop axle or assembly
