Front bumper idea. Now Rear 9-11-08

Don't know about weight yet or how big of a winch.

for storage I saw a pic of someone who had put a reciever in the back of thier rig for storage. Inside the bed area. Still undecided.

Few more pics

got stinger type deal on today. One step at a time i guess

Not meaning to sound like a dumbass/smartass but what's the purpose of that thing?

I realize guys were installing them in hopes of redirecting a front flop, is that what it's for? :dunno:

My idea is in case of a flop on the lid it will protect the radiator from being damaged so hopefully could roll back and keep going. Also plan some wrap around headlight protection. Sometimes driving style gets a little bump and run.

:cool1:  get it now.

finally did a few more things on the bumper. I got the plate to case in the front of the winch to mount fairlead too, that will be next week

Holy cow that thing (winch and bumper / cow catcher) looks huge!

Looks like it will work for sure.

I have a thing for running into things so the larger protection is a must. Already had to straighten one of the tubes on the bumper yesterday before welding the winch plates in. Need to finish it with some gussetting and more tubing

I'm kinda confused, you had a winch mounted between the frame rails, grill in tackt and now it's out front?

Sweet mounting location for the winch. I was planning on setting my 8274 back in the grill the same way so I don't lose all my approch angle. Did you just notch the radiator support\hood latch bracket?

This is a better winch and there wasn't enough room under rad support to fit a larger winch if I wanted to upgrade later

yeah I notched a chunk out of it then bent some of it to give it better support. The motor clears the latch by prob 1.5". I also ordered hood pins to double sure since I did cut up the support some.

Nice work! one suggestion is to add some bracing on the side where the bumper wraps around the fender.... I have a similar setup and big rocks like to push those corners into the front fenders... i have had to straighten mine out a couple of times, in fact it is currently BENT! Yeah I know I should follow my own advice but I am lazy:D a piece of tube from the corner of the bumper to the frame should work nicely

i've already bent the main lower peices in and tweacked a fender but used a forklift, and 3 pickups and a dozen chains and straightened back out. I will run a tube from the bottwonm part of frame you can see the bracket goes down and curves there and run it up to just past where the stinger tube attaches then from there I can take another tube and triagulate the wrap around. Make sense? I should just finish it one afternoon, just a couple short peieces and a few notches is all it would take.

That tan color looks cool with the green! What are the plans to finish it up? Are you going to leave it with the open tube design like the front or are you going to fill it in with plating? Any rear tow hooks or rear winch perhaps?:D

front will get a few more support tubes. rear will get a few more too and either a rear winch or a toolbox in the middle. Clevis mounts are built into the rear bumper brackets. I will weld some strap with a 1" hole to double up the clevis mount area. Also a tire carrier on back
