Front bumper ??\'s

Will a Warn winch bumper from a '77 Chevy bolt right up to an
'81 chevy?? If not, what kind of fabricating would it take to get it to line up?? Thanks for all help and info!!!

Uhhhhh maybe. the width of the frame is the same but in 81 GM changed the shape of the ends of the frame where it meets the bumper. The hole configuration is also different. Should work but you will need to redrill some holes.

Re: Front bumper ??\'s

I'm not sure about a Warn bumper, but I recently tried to put a prerun bumper that was designed to my 85 on a friend's 76, and we had to knock about 1/2" off of the 76's frame. You may have to do some minor fab work, but nothing too big.

Re: Front bumper ??\'s

I think those bumpers come with 2 part numbers. One number for the basic bumper and the other for the "installation kit" that makes it fit your particular year of truck. If it doesn't fit, you should be able to get the install kit. It may be easier to modify the existing brackets.

If it's the style I'm thinking of, the outer third of each side bends pretty easily. The center is made of some beefy steel, to handle the winching loads. The rest is pretty thin. I looked at a used one and decided to pass on it. I want something that can take a bit more abuse.

I believe you're right about the bumper being the same but using different "install kits". I went on the Warn site last night and that's pretty much what I came up with. I'm looking at the bumper tonight and don't know about the strength of it (I'll find out tonight) but the guys asking $75 and I'm thinking it will be alot beefier than my stock bumper!! Thanks for the info guys!

Just a comment
Yes it is better than stock but if you are looking for something that will last and/or survive the offroading terian I wouldn't waist my time with it! My buddy had one and they are thin and flimsy! Not as flimsy as a stock bumper but perrty close!!
