Hello!

Has anyone here ever installed the CV joint from the front shaft on the rear shaft? I have a 6" lift (all spring) and have just fitted a 14b under the rear. I have to weld on new perches and shock mounts, and I wanted to eliminate the vibrations as well. I want to keep the slip-yoke in the transfer case, but want to "splice" the a CV joint from an extra front shaft I have between the rear driveshaft tube and yoke. Has anyone done this? If so, how did it work?

Thanks

The short answer is that you can't really do it.

The key is finding a slip yoke that has the features for the U-joint of the C/V and the centering ball. I don't think there is one for the 3R C/V. If you did a slip yoke eliminator, you could run a flange like the front ouput and the 3R would bolt right up. However, many here will tell you that it isn't strong enough. The closest you can get from factory parts (that I know if) is the old Cadillac 1350 C/V, which had a slip yoke. The drawback is that it isn't designed to travel very far - the slip does not have splines all the way through it. A 6" lift probably has your U-joint angle around 15 degrees and it you are going to push a slip yoke like that, it should all be good parts.

These are the reasons that drive so many to custom driveline suppliers. But talk to your local driveline shops. Some of these places do have creative solutions.
