Front D44 Question

I'm doing a spindle install and I pulled the axle out to clean the inside of the tube. It was filled with with oil soaked sand (imagine that) now I know the seal is way inside next to the diff but what keeps the tube from filling up with in my case sand but really anything water, mud, dirt. I looked at some diagrams of breakdowns for the d44 but it really does not show a real seal there. Anybody know these axles real good or a real idea on whats up with sealing it?

The inner seal is install from the ring gear side, and will keep that trash out

Some of the smaller shop vac hoses will fit in the tube. Otherwise a washer on a piece of all thread to scrape it out

cut washer almost in half . install in tube then turn down to act as cup and drag out crap only. this way you don't push crap inside .

Get a smaller diameter of PVC pipe (3/4 or 1") and a roll of duct tape. Tape it to your shop vac tube/hose. Works well.

OK, Thanks for the cleaning it out tips but I had already scraped and shop vac-ed it. I wanted to know if there is supposed to be a seal or some way to keep that crud out in the first place. sounds like the inner seal is it. just seems odd to be able to fill the tube all the way in to the inner seal, like in a water crossing or a mud bog situation. I guess it's been like that for years so I'm putting it back together already.

PS. has anybody used these urethane bushings instead of bearings for the inner spindle seals, I'm gona give them a go and see how they do

and there bushings have grease groves machined in them .

longfield use to have listed a greaser unit that spun on the spindle threads and cleared the stub shaft and pumped grease down the spindle via the grease zerk in the end. easy to make 1 with a old nut and a chunk of pipe and a welder.

these say jeep . so best check fitment .

I had the bushings in the front end of my 44 for a long time. No issues.
