Front Dana 60 identification

I am going to check out a K30 today after work and I want to be 100% sure that I can ID the front axle.

I went to the techinical section that shows the diff covers of the Dana 60 and it shows 10 bolts holding the diff cover on.
Are Dana 60's unique in having 10 bolts compared to a Dana 44? I know I can tell the difference between a 8 lug front 10 bolt and a Dana 60.

Do all front Dana 60's have kingpins instead of ball joints?

Do all front Dana 60's have the numbers "60" cast into the top of the pumpkin?

I know my hubs for my 8 lug 10 bolt are the external type. But, does a Dana 60 have the hub components inside compared to a 10 bolt? (internal)

I have also been looking at off-road.com's site and there was some good pictures of a front Dana 60. I may even print some of the pictures so I can take them with me for reference.

My main concern is confusing a Dana 44 with a Dana 60.

The ad for the truck claims its a 1980 K30 but, you know how we like to swap axles around here! I just want to cover all my bases before I decide to pick it up or not.

Anyway, sorry for the novel and thanks for all your help.

Dana 44's and GM 10-bolt front ends have 3 bolts, sort of inline, that hold the steering arm to the knuckle. A Dana 60 has 4 bolts in a square pattern that hold the steering arm to the knuckle. That's the quickest way that I know of to ID a 60.

Just look for 3 u bolts and the inside on the passenger side will have 2 studs and nuts going into the pumkin instead of a 4th u bolt. Also if you look on the front of the pumkin toward the bottom on the side it should have 60F cast in the pumkin. Not sure on the letter but it will have 60 something on it.

Thanks guys, I totally had a brain fart and didn't think about
the passenger u-bolt deal.

At least I know what I am looking for now. I hope it still has the Dana 60 in it!

If it does you know for sure I will let all of you know! LOL

All '60s I've ever seen have kingpins.

Did you go look at it last night? Are you planning on getting the whole truck?
Yeah, I picked up a d60 and another 14 bolt a couple months ago from a guy up in Flint. Get this, he wanted to run 15" rims on an '85 crew cab he had brought back from out west. Therefore, he thought he needed to have 1/2 ton axles. I wasn't saying a word. He traded me even up for some 1/2 ton axles I had up in Bay City. Since the axles are from out west, they are still black in color as opposed to rust. One of the best scores of my life.

Well, the front axle was a dually. It was a flat bed truck, 1980 and it was in really rough shape. He said it has been sitting there for 2 years. The axle didn't look in very good shape either.

So, I passed on it. Blazbrnc, so is this Dana 60 you have, is it a extra one? Or did you mean I could look at the one you have so I could see what to look for? I assume that you are going to keep it. If not, I would like to check it out.

Nice deal by the way, 1/2 ton axles traded even for a set of 1 tons! Can't beat that. I wish I could find a deal like that.

I wish it was an extra but it isn't. I'm going to install it as soon as it warms up. I was just going to let you look at it (nobody else appreciates it).
So what's the story on this flatbed? Did it have a big block?

I didn't check under the hood. The truck was a POS. I only needed a Dana 60 so it didn't cross my mind to check out the engine.

Everyone should appreciate a Dana 60! LOL
