Front Dana 60

Looks like an average GM dually D60, seems ok. You do want a dually axle, right? It's cheap now but knowing Ebay the price will go up dramatically before it's over.

You may want to look for a SRW axle unless you are planning something you have not mentioned.

I dont get it but arn't all front wheels single but most likly im not getting something so what is the diff?

Basically that dually 60 has spacers that are approx 6" offset cast as a part of the bearing hub. These spacers allow you to run matching dually rims on the front (1 spare tire instead of 2). Take a look at the locking hub, it only sticks out about an inch from the wheel whereas on a single rear wheel version of a 60 the locking hub snout is about 5"~6" long.

Here are a couple of examples, the first is a dually axle (notice short snout with the wheel mounting surface and lug studs are moved outward close to the locking hub) and the other is a single wheel version (see long snout with the wheel mounting surface and lug studs are inward closer to the rotor).

all you have to do to convert i though was remove the spacer and get new studs? am i wrong on this or is there more to it? Sry for the hijack

The inner "ring" on dually hubs isn't machined for a wheel mounting surface. On top of that, it only has 8 tabs there unlike SRW hubs which have a full circle.

I wouldn't consider modifying DRW hubs (to be SRW hubs) unless its a trailered trail only rig.

you can get SRW rotors and hubs togethere brand new from gmpartsdirect.com. total cost should be aroudn 318.00 shipped to your door. That is the cheapest place to get them. a parts store can not touch this price.

So how do you convert them then? I know guys do it all the time

SRW hubs are a direct swap, which is what most people do.

You can machine the mounting flange off of the DRW hubs (or cut/grind them off) and have the "new" mounting surface machined flat so a wheel can mount against it.

This is generally not considered safe for a truck that sees any street time because the DRW hub has less than half the material in that area that the SRW hubs have.

i am currently waiting on a set of DRW to be machined so we can use them on a buddies trail only buggy. if we have any failures/concerns i'll let you guys know.

I've never heard of or seen a set of hubs fail but I would highly recommend that machined DRW hubs never see the street.

I would run them on a trail-only rig in a second :thumb:
