Front Diff fluid color

Hey guys is the front diff fluid color sopposed to be grey?

That just means it got contaminated. water and what not. Change it out and you should be fine.

Nope. It should be light brown.

Now, is the fluid silver or cloudy grey?

That sounds like metal shaving in other fluids... Being its the front diff i doubght it though...If theres a limited slip (which would typically cause that color) its not too odd. It seems odd an open diff could make such a clor...

That's not good. The silver you're seeing are flecks of steel, and it has to be coming from somewhere. Have you ever changed out the oil? Is there a chance it's still the original fluid?

Regardless, swap in some new stuff pronto and keep an eye on it........

Then there's a chance it could be leftovers from when the R&P was breaking in. Like I said, pull the cover, drain it, give everything in there a REALLY good clean up with some brake cleaner, and fill it up with fresh stuff. Then keep an eye on it.

FWIW, Chris, every time I've bought a used vehicle, the first thing I've done is swapped out ALL of the fluids. If you don't know when yours were last done, I suggest you go about changing them all out sooner rather than later.

CANMOREK5 do u know how many quarts i need to fill the front diff?

I'm assuming you've got the factory 10 bolt front. If I recall correctly, the sucker takes a little more than 2 quarts. Don't quote me on that, though- it's been a while since I last serviced it.

thanx alot wen the parts store open up tommrow i will but some more gearoil and watever else to replace the front diff fluid




Wat do i need to replace the gasket? New gasket or silicone or both for my front 10b diff

I just use black RTV. Let me see if I can dig up an old post where I covered the job in more detail........

Yep thats y im makeing sure my son get a membership wen hes old enough to drive my/his 88 blazer. Hes only 1 1/2 years old but he love his/my truck
