Front diff housing bumpstop

I should take a pic I guess. This thing is no joke with the amount of steel in the brackets and stuff. I wonder if this came along with the dual front shocks. That was an option too, right?

"severe road conditions" means jumping a stock truck with the primary bumpstops rotted away? :D

You are correct. Any K5/K10/K20 gas or diesel with option Z75 (Quad Shocks) came with the snubber. Any M1009 CUCV that I am aware of came with the snubber.

Most, if not all, CUCV D30 came with the snubber however it is different because of being one tons, , not sure about other applications.

I read in one of my Chilton's manuals some K5's and pickups back in late 73 had a third bump stop added,as a factory "upgrade", that contacts the diff carrier (on the front) ,because some trucks had the front driveshaft take the starter out, after going over "severe road conditions"...that would certainly suck!.:doah:

I'd say if a truck was lifted, chances are you'd never have to worry about the driveshaft ever going that far up any more..but every truck is different..

I'm uncertain how much redundancy the pinion snubber would have over the spring snubbers. In theory, the pinion snubber would limit housing wrap under heavy braking, heavily loaded front axle or heavy torque loading in reverse or any combination of the aforementioned.

Well, after I noticed both of my primary bump stop rubbers on the frame were indeed MIA the other day and I bottomed out the suspention with my plow on ,going over some severe frost heaves on my street,I can say for sure the third bump stop on the pinion did indeed make contact with the snubber, and my front shaft had some evidence of having rubbed against something--the ring nut collar thing on the slip yoke was shined up pretty good--couldn't really tell what it made contact with, thankfully nothing looked damaged..it make some bad banging noises like the front shaft was getting shoved into the T-case..:eek1:

I ended up putting an old pair of well used bump stops I had off a truck I scrapped back on the frame brackets for now..front springs are only 2 leafers and fatigued enough to make the bump stops touch them when I raise the plow up...rides a lot better with the rubbers intact I must say..might end up getting some poly ones if they end up failing..I dont feel like replacing the springs unless I have no choice..truck only plows my yard and rides OK when the blade is off...getting too shabby to waste a lot of money and effort on it now too..
