Front drive shaft interchangeability ?s

the slip joint on my front drive shaft is worn out, so I'm going to the junk yard friday to see if I can find one in better condition. Will a drive shaft from a k5/pickup/suburban with a different transmission/transfer case/axles fit without problems?

Nope.

Different transmissions and t-cases are different lengths. Also, some t-cases have a square flange at the front output, while others use a more typical yoke. You'll want to measure carefully to make sure you get a driveshaft that is the right length and has the correct ends.

A driveshaft from any GM truck of this bodystyle with the same tranny/xfer and the same front output on the xfer will work.

A TH 400 is I think 2-3 inches longer than a TH 350, and a 700R4 is longer yet....so none of those shafts will work.

Right now I've got the front shaft from a TH 400 truck on mine and it's a bit short. I'll upgrade soon.

Your tranny/xfer combo is quite common, and if you've got the flange and not a yoke up front, it'll be really easy to find a shaft.
