Is there a longer spline available to replace the stock male end of the slip yoke? Looks like a longer spline would be easier then lenghtining the shaft. Good upgrade!

It is a 1990 Chevy Blazer with Dana 44 front.

I have had a few front shafts with loose splines. There are only a few driveline shops local to me and what they want to replace the spline and slip yoke is not too far from the cost of a new custom shaft. I ended up getting one from Tatton on eBay.

Here's a comparison of the stock spline to the new one. No, I don't know what the part numbers are - I couldn't find anything similar in the Spicer and Neapco catalogs. Secret of driveline guys, maybe. IIRC, these are $225 shipped.

If you were talking about leaving the shaft alone and replacing just the end yoke, I don't think that would work very well. If the splines were in good shape, it would work to lengthen the shaft just a little, but I don't think anybody makes what you want. You usually have to replace both halves of that slip joint together, which is similar to retubing the shaft, which is what makes the cost so high.

Blue85,
Do you have a link to where you bought your front driveline, I couldn't find it on ebay under the name you gave. Thanks.

Having a longer male spline in the stock configuration is useless if the slip Yoke isn't longer as well. IIRC when a LONG slip driveshaft is made the male spline is now part of the slip Yoke (that bolts to the axle) and there is a long female slip piece welded into the driveshaft so that the male spline goes inside of the driveshaft when being compressed.

This is what i'm talking about.
