As time has gone on there have been some new developments in the cv driveshafts in the OE that can work for the square tcases with the factory flange. I haven’t seen it really talked about a lot here and I have three of them in hand.



The left is the original square shaft with 3r cv and 1310 pinion joint. It’s done us really well for a lot of people.
The middle is aftermarket but it’s OE application is the 2003-08 or something Dodge 8 lug 4x4 front shaft. For sure diesel and probably gas too by some catalogs. It’s a greasable 1350 cv with the 3-1/8 pilot and 4-1/4 bolt pattern with through holes just like the squares front flange. Bolt on at the flange. The slip is a 1350 so that needs attention to use on a square of course. Solid choice to wheel though. This particular one I used some old roll cage tubing 2” .120 wall to build to length I needed.
The right side is an OE mopar shaft for a 13-18 8 lug truck part number 05146802aa. This is a 1410 cv head that’s greasable with the same 3-1/8 pilot and 4-1/4 bolt circle to match the gm flange. 1410 on the slip. This is a 2.5” .120 wall tube. Not as common but still very easy to get for a retube but it’s actually pretty long. Most likely just shorten it for even a long gm trans and tcase.
Very useful driveshafts for offroad use. One thing I have to say is none of these can take excessive angle. Compared to a single ujoint, CV in general offer lower operating angle capability unless they are advertised as high angle.
