i bought a front and rear end out of a three quarter ton suburban,1983 model, eight lug, whats the difference in that compared to my six lug dana 44, and twelve bolt in the rear of my half ton chevy,i know about the twelve bolt, can you guys give me your opinions on the semi float 14,and the difference in the eight lug front end, compared to the six lug,i got a hell of a deal on them, hope they are worth it,thanks, and if any one has a dana 60 for sale, let me know, for the front of my chevy, thanks

not too much difference.the semi float 15 percent stronger than the 12 bolt.front end same strength.bigger rotors should help stopping power though.thats about it.

thanks, ive been running 37'' swampers on my chevy, wanting to move up to 39'',not to concerned about the rear, but having a hard time finding a 60 out here, dont wanna stop wheeling though, ive been every where with this truck, held up fine so far,my tires are about done,so i decided to swao out the running gear before i buy new tires, hopefully they will stand up to 39''iroks,thanks for your help

SF 14 bolt shafts should be 37% stronger than 12 bolt shafts, I don't know where you would have found 15%.

so i should be fine running 39.5 iroks, what about the three quarter ton front end though, how can i ensure that it will hold up to those tires,i have a light foot, like to play hard though

You'll probably be ok with 39.5's on the SF 14 bolt, but don't expect it to be invincible.

As for the front, its not going to hold up to those tires. Grab some spares from the junkyard and once you've changed enough of them you'll start looking harder for a 60 ;)

a four wheel drive shop here in cheyenne has one for 800$,just aint had that much at one time, should save a little harder, thanks

Nobody has really answered your first question but other than lug pattern, there's no real strength difference between the 6 lug D44 and 8 lug 10 bolt.

thanks, need to get it done before spring though, maybe just stick with 37,or 38'' tires again, got me most places i wanted to go,dont wanna go much taller anyways,i will come up with a 60 sooner or later,i have family in tx,ok,and mo,i'll find one eventually, come spring ,lets wheel,

ive heard from many people that the 14 bolt sf is only all around 15 to 20 percent stronger.im just quoting what ive heard.you still have to worry about the c clip holding in the rear shafts if they break you will still lose the wheel off the truck.the 10 bolt would hold up about the same as the 44.37s and a light foot they should hold up.most say with 10 bolts 35s are about all they can handle.even with hardened shafts, the ten bolt ring and pinion are the next to go.if the u joints hold up.lol.good luck.if you havent broken the halk ton stuff yet with 37s you should be fine.
