my 91 1500 burb is 99% stock. When I get up to speed on the freeway at just over 50mph the front end starts to vibrate. The steering is not affected, the thing just shakes pretty bad

Sound like the ball joints or wheel bearings to you guys? I've never taken a front end apart or replaced worn front end components on an issue like this before

Tire worn out of round would be my first guess. Try switching wheels front to rear and see what happens.

sounds like bad tierod ends. If you dont understand front end components the tierod is the long bar on the front axle that connects your two wheels, climb under there and shake left right up and down for slop it should be pretty tight with little movement.

jack the front end up, put it on jack stands and have someone turn the wheel. as mentioned move the tire up down and side to side, you would be surprised how easy you can find the problem:D

ball joints and tie rods ends.. really with the age and miles on the truck alot of options to whats wrong are on the table

My Sub had a similar shake on the freeway, but it's not stock. It has 39.5" TSLs and 10" Superlift springs. I had the tires balanced and a front end alignment done and it helped get rid of most of the highway vibrations.

Actually this was accidentally right. The driver side rear tire took a big nail. The tire lost air and the wheel tore up the sidewall beyond repair. I bought a new tire and mounted it up to the driver side front, moving the front tire to the rear and now 95% of the vibration has stopped.:D

thanks for the reply
