I've never removed front fenders before and I have to remove mine for inner and outer rocker replacement so I have a few "newbie" questions:

How many bolts hold them on and where are they located?

Do the wheel wells come off with them?

What else is attached to them or the wheel wells if they come off too?

I appreciate any and all helpful tips. I need to remove them yet this week.

Thanks in advance.

I dont know if it matters, but you may want to post your YEAR< MAKE < MODEL of truck your working on.

In most cases, the wheel well does remove seperately from the fender. Also are you talking both sides or just one side? if so, which side? THey each have their own obstacles to removing the fender.

Oh yea, your gonna hate it. lol

Let me see there is one that you open the door to get one on bottom of fender with a big washer next to rocker panel a bunch on the lip of inner fender well a rather large one on the inside of inner fender 3 or 4 in the front bolted to rad support one or two on the valence panel. and one or two behind the headlight to the left on the pass side. same way on the driver side does this make any sense to ya

I have an 82 K5 Blazer. Sorry, I guess I automatically assume that since this a forum about Blazers that I don't have to mention that but you're right, it could have been some other type. LOL!

I will be removing both sides since both side inner and outer rockers are getting replaced.

Don't tell me I'm going to hate it. DO'H !!!!!!

I'm assuming the whole front needs to come off then... the grille, radiator support, etc? I was hoping it wouldn't be so much but if I have to remove it all, I guess I will.

It's not that bad as long as your floor is not rusted near the body mounts, because if it is the cab will drop down a bit and then you will have fun readjusting your fenders to there right place.theres about 13 or 14 bolts holding your fender in place plus the stuff inside on your inner fenders.and you don't have to remove the inner fenders.but the fastest way to remove them is removing the front clip completly,4 bolts on each side 2 front rad support mounts and you radiator. a ya and a helper.

81-91

1 bolt bottom back side of fender next to rocker.

1 bolt in door opening near top. open door and go stright threw gap.

1 bolt on top of cowl hood area by glass.

3 bolts underside for inner fender to bottom of coresuport.

3-5 bolts inside engine bay fender to coresupport batteryside best to remove tray makes it a lot easyer.

headlight covers off. 3 bolts. 1 near the top of fender inside headlight area. 2 lower grill valence filler panel to fender.

2 bolts hold inner fender to cab

4 bolts for hood hinge (2) & hood spring arm (2)

someone or somthing hold hood up or :doah:

then any thing else cliped to inner fender or bolted on.

remove stright off the side with min wiggle around.

and keep track of the body tab spacers to reset body gaps. thay fit between the fenders and cab. :thumb:

note if you want inner fender off its 7-9 bolts around wheel arch and can be done after removale and before install.

When do you need a fender gasket...or do they all have them? I am assuming that it's something used to keep them from rattling??? :dunno:

I'd remove the front clip as one piece.

Remove the battery and assorted ground cables/wires.

Remove the Radiator

Unplug the headlight wiring right at the fuse block on the firewall. There is one small bolt holding all the wiring to the fuse block, unbolt it and you can just unplug the headlight harness from it.

Remove the hood, make sure to scribe around the hinge so it'll be easy to re-align later.

Undo the hood release cable

Remove front bumper

Remove grill so you have access to the body mount bolt heads in the core support.

Remove body mounts bolts from under core support.

Remove the bolts holding the fenders to the body

Convince a friend to lift the front end off the truck.

I did this with my 14 year old daughter in about 3 hours.

I have removed fenders and stuff the other way, and it's more work.

I've been thinking that how I want to do it too. I'd rather remove the whole front clip. I've never done it but I'm sure with this site helping I'll get it done. More questions to come I'm sure.

In addition, I found it was easier to take the front bumper and the tires off. Make sure you have help, and take the hood off as well.
