So I did a bunch of searching on if the front clip from a pre 81 would swap onto my 89 suburban and it seems that it would, just have to change the cowl, wiper assembly, and the entirety of the front clip. Now, most people it seems do this to get the older style grill and headlight assembly. All I'd really want is the older style fenders (still kinda like the dual headlights). Any way I'd get away with that without replacing the entire clip?

I think the hood hinges are different..
I've never done this type of swap, but I know others who wanted to do the opposite--put an 81 and newer front clip on their old round eye trucks (A step backwards IMO,but to each his own!--or maybe there was only newer truck noses here in salvage yards for donors ?)-- and they had to change all the parts you listed, and deal with the hood hinges..

Someone else here may have better info..my guess is if it was "easy" to swap back to the old round eye nose,a lot more trucks would have them..

Everything is different. Basically, it's all or nuthin'. You even need to change the wiper posts.

But, it is easier to go from new to old, rather than old to new. It's because the newer front clip has hood hinges that bolt into the firewall.
