Most of the locals around here utilize a front hanger for a home brew shackle flip. Question is, what should I pull it from? 1500/2500/4x4/2x4?

I don't think it matters. I've seen the 1-tons on a big stake truck or cab chassis that look to be a bit bigger all around, but I don't think there is any real difference in the 1/2 - 3/4 ton, 2x4, 4x4 versions. I could be wrong though, but I don't think I am.

Is the width the same? Meaning doesn't the K5 frame narrow between the front and rear hangers. So a front hanger mounted in the rear wouldn't project far enough from the frame. :dunno:

I know that the front hanger on a 1-ton would not project as far as the front hanger on the rest of the GM trucks. This is because of the narrower spring perch width on 1-tons.

I got mine from an 84 2wd truck. the ones for the 4wd hang down lower and I didnt want mine hanging down too low. if you position it right a 2wd will give you about 4 inches of lift and a good shackle angle. and since you will be drilling and mounting it to your specks you can do some pretty tricky stuff with your shackle angle and lift height. just be sure to measure and get it right the first time so you dont have to drill too many holes in your frame.

I'm pretty sure the frame is the same width from the firewall back.

Good info Big Dan!! :waytogo:

I suppose you're right since it has been done. :doah: I think it's just that bulk of a shackle flip bracket makes it seem different.

But a 1-ton bracket still wouldn't work regardless.
