front hub clicking sound

In June 2008 while in Colorado my left hub did this too. I thought the viberation from the road caused it. I would hear the click (ticking sound) and it would do just like what you described. Once I got to Ouray I used the car wash (pressure wash) to spray the hub and rotors.

Wheeled the alpine loop and it did it that morning once in Silverton and never did it again. Let us know what you figure out.

My truck used to do this and when I pulled the locking hub off, the wheel hub was full of aluminum shavings. The wheel bearing had worn down enough to allow the hub/rotor to slide inboard on the spindle and the locking hub ground itself to pieces (clicking noise) on the edge of the spindle. Wierd thing was, I had just had that same hub apart 6 months earlier to repack the bearings, but I guess I didn't catch how worn the bearing was.

Try to look at it soon without driving it too much! My 87 did the same thing. I drove it this way because I couldn't find the clicking noise.

About a month later it was on a wrecker being towed home because the passanger wheel bearings seized on the spindle because of the lock nut coming loose.

After that I upgraded to a set of Stage 8 fasteners for the hub assembly. See pics attached.

Mine locked up when i was doing 50 I swerved all over the road (lucky no traffic) and managed to pull over. Thought I blew a tire but got out and looked around and all looked fine. I drove home slowly. When I got it home I found out the passenger front tire was making clicking noises so I took it apart and found melted metal everywhere. New spindle and hub!

I wonder if it's the lock nut not being properly torqued that's causing these failures. I think I'm going to upgrade to the new kind as soon as I get a chance.
