Would there be any problem running a mini spool in the front diff of my blazer? Its not my daily driver but it does get driven on the street.

It should not bother it unless you have a older one that is fulltime. But if you have a 10bolt or 44 with larger tires and in rocks or other hard stuff you will go through parts like axle shafts and joints.

what would a better option? than the mini spool

If you only use 4WD while 4 wheeling? Nothing really. In 4 low a mechanical locker and a spool will act the same.

It is a good idea to carry spares, especially with 1/2 ton stuff (plus they're cheap and easy to find). Any time you are using bigger tires and/or lockers you should expect to break the stock axles at some point.

I'm not saying you'll break every trip out or anything (in fact, you didn't tell us anything about your rig or its intended use) but its better to have the spares and not need them than the opposite ;)

if im not mistaken a lockright will actually let one axle rotate backwards like if you have to climb and undercut ledge or something, a spool will just twist things up.

Sort of, but not really. The other side of the coin would say that mechanical lockers let the one shaft speed up and slow down much more violently than a spool for the same reason (i.e. the slop that's in a mechanical locker could produce some high short term shock loads).

FWIW I run a detroit in the front of my buggy with no issues, its been in there since the truck was my DD.
