FRONT mount hitches

Search. Pretty sure you won't find one off-the-shelf; Warn makes one for 81-87/91.

The 81-87 one will work, with a little inginuity. All you would have to do is cut a frame ear off, like where the front of the frame ear is folded over, just cut a slit out. it will fit,but without the slit, you can't get it between theframe rails. The 81-87[s don't have the front folds and therefore,it slides right in from the front.

Kinda hard to explain, but once you have thje 81-87 front hitch, and the 73-80 frame, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

I did,then I gave up and asked here,where almost every thing is know about K5`s , :D

Thanks 73k5blazer.Have you done this to yours?Do you happen to have a pic?Or is that to much to hope for...? ;)

I haven't done it. I bought the 81-87 front hitch from warn. I was going to try and use it on my '73, but then I had Kert from DIY4x design me a heavy front bumper with integrated reciever, so I never used it. But I did try and weasel it in in there, and found it will fit, but to get it in, you need to cut an access slit.
Your in luck, I'm just about to remove my bumpers because I just today finished modifying them (various bracket, brush guard mounts...etc), and I'm taking them off to finally paint them tommorow. I need to re-construct my makeshift paint booth in the garage again (Plastic enclosure with cheap room fan with furnace filter in front of it)
So when I take them off tommorow morning, I will pull out the hitch, which I still have, and snap a pic to show what and where the issue is.

I could almost kiss you ! ! ! ! :)

I like the one ChrisBlazzer89 posted , but I dont want to mess up my bumper up.

I emailed Kert about makeing me a coustom bumper,he emailed me me back once and then nothing for 2 weeks or so...

Here ya go:

The frame width is the same, the older frames have the fold over on the front there, preventing you from sliding the hitch in from the front. And no, trying to angle it in there, just doesn't fly, I tried for 1/2hour and 2 beers later, I still couldn't get it in.
But if you simply cut the front fold off (I added some guide lines in the second pic), you can slide it in. You could leave those off, or weld them back on if you want.
I believe 81-87 frames don't have the front folds. Someone with an 81-87 could confirm. Towards the bottom of the front fold on our frame ears there is a hole for a bumper bolt, you can leave that part of the fold, you just need to cut the height of the hitch plate off to be able to slide it in.
I never checked if the holes line up, but you could drill new holes in the hitch or the frame if need be.
I would think, one side would be enough to get it in there too. You might have to do both, but once you cut one off, you could try and weasel it in there, and you might be able to.

Thanks 73K5Blazer!!!!!!
So I dont have to cut my bumper bolt hole off? I didnt wanna mess with my bumper.:wink1:
I cant thank you enough, and the pics are great.I see too many small fuzzy pics that just dont help.Yours are great! ! !

Well, I'm not sure, but it looks like you wouldn't have to cut the bumper bolt hole off, the area above it should be enough to get the hitch in there.

If you have a welder, you could always weld that area back on though, if you had to cut it off.

1 last thing, what brand and yr hitch did you use?
And did you do this on a 73?are the 73 an 77 frames the same?

It's the Warn front hitch for 81-87 chevy trucks

Yes, I was trying on my '73. I believe the 73-80 frame ears are the same

You guys have been great!! Thanks for all the answers!!
I would have just given up if I couldnt find a hitch to fit.I dont have the money to buy something to test then find out it wont fit. With my luck I wouldnt be able to sell it then ;)
Hell I have stuff I cant even give away.... LOL

The later year frames (at least '89 - '91) are open in the front (no fold over) once you unbolt the bumper brackets.

do you have any pics of the rest of the hitch? how far below the frame does it hang? wanna sell it?:wink1:

Yeah, I didn't like the red oxide color, so I sandbalsted and painted the entire frame with DuPont Imron, that's what the black stuff is. The white powder stuff is fiberglass dust from years of cutting holes and stuff in the fiberglass body I have.

I see if I can measure and get a pic of the rest of the hitch here....but where it ends up in relation to a stock bumper, I don't know, I don't have a stock bumper to try it anymore. But I'm pretty sure it's designed to come up just underneath the stocker.
