front of dovetailing the rear??

When doing a dovetail, what do you do to the front of the bed behind the pillar?
I know you cut the floor and rear supports to pull in the rear but the front of the bed doesnt seem to flexible to me. A truck bud would be easy but blazers and burbs are double walled.
