I just got my 81 k20 back from the shop and I have some new issues. I had them replace the floor pan, do some sporatic welding and lower the cab from the 3" body lift to ORDs 1 inch. Now that its closer to the well I noticednthe tire is further back. It has the diy4x Axel plates with the long spring pin holes. Do I just like sent the u bolts and slide the aaxel forward or ditch those plates. I want the Axel moved forward but not sure how yet. Anythoughts?

Do you have zero rate blocks installed? Just wondering since you have the slotted ubolt plates.

I'd be looking to see if the center pin is broken, if the ubolts are already loose and/or (if installed) see if the zero rate block pin plAcement is the same from side to side. Also look at the top and bottom surface of the leaf spring pack to see if there are marks where the axle may be moving.

The ubolt plates do hold everything tight but they do not set the location of the axle. You have another problem.

How much difference is there from side to side?

Not sure on the zero rate. I'm going to say they aren't there. Its a difference of about an inch to 1 and 1/2. What is the purpose of zero rates? I hear about them but not sure what the purpose is.

run a tape measure down the spring and make sure the distance between the spring eye and the U bolt on each side is the same. At least then you can eliminate any issues that nvrenuf mentioned.

could easily be a tweaked frame/body panels or both

Is the axle actually shifted, or is the body all wonky? You can use the bump stops as a reference to see if the axle isn't straight under the frame.
