Front pump seal

Ok I got a 74 w/ 350/350 setup, I bought it with a leak. My friend looked it over and thinks it is the front pump seal. Does anyone know about how much this will cost me or has anyone had this done on theres? I wanted to take it to a shop so I can get a warranty.

what type of fluid is leaking? (oil, coolant, etc.)

If it's the water pump that's leaking it won't be too bad, they pull fan and pump, replace gasket, and put it back together.

If it's the front seal on the oil pan, they'll need to drop the pan and replace that front seal, which is sometimes hard to get to with the crossmember in the way.

Once you know for sure what is leaking you can give a few local shops a call and most will give you ball park estimates on cost.

If you're talking about the TH350 you need to slide the tranny back far enough to remove the torque converter, replace the seal in the front pump, check the converter hub for wear (repair with speedi-sleeve if necessary) and replace torque converter making sure that it is fully seated and bolt the tranny back to the engine.

Speedo that is what I was talking about, I will not be back in the states for awhile. I was trying to see if anyone has had this same problem and about what they paid for it to get fixed. I won't have a garage or shop or place to work on it for awhile.

I did one in a buggy out in the driveway long ago without a tranny jack in about an hour. With a full body you should be able to find a shop that would do it for around 2 hours. I don't have a flat rate guide around here maybe someone has one and they can get you a quote for labor time.

Thanks for the help, I actually just talked to my buddy who is a mechnic he said we could do it no problem in my brothers driveway. So as soon as I get back we are going to give it a go.
