Front receiver fabrication "how-to"

I've done destructive testing on bolts in the press in the shop. 8 isn't that brittle. They're stronger, better steel, plain n simple. Also, in a sheer application like this, harder would be better even if it was brittle.

As far as the color it has nothing to do with the grade. The color is from the coating Yellow/gold is generally zinc plated. And it really does not matter my winch came with grade 5 mounting hardware. I am pretty sure the mounting feet of the winch will fail before the mounting bolts as the feet are only cast aluminum. Arent they?

Any how on topic Nice write up and I agree with the pimp fold down license plate. The 80s caprice classic also had them.

I use a locking one when the winch is in, even with the key that you insert in the end, it's easy to install/remove!

this is very true, but there is a metal coating that uses cadnium, but i think its most the used on sheet metal that is exposed to harsh chemicals like brake boosters and such, but it MIGHT have made it on to bolts, although i cant find any examples...

anybody ever seen the f**d commercial where they are suspending a f-150 by one of the bed bolts, and they say something about how strong they are blah, blah, blah. except they are using the bolt in a double shear static load, unlike the real use where you'd have a single shear and LOTS of shock loading...

figures lie and liars figure....

i have got some grade5 land i want to sell you... It's bitchfront property too!!
