Will be replacing my front rotors will I have my front end ripped apart. Any brands that I should stay away from. Is it worth it to upgrade to slotted/drilled? Currently running 33" tires, stock calipers and brakes.
 
Just don't go with economy rotors. The thickness/venting is different to save money and will cause problems on these heavy trucks. Raybestos are a good brand, sell tons of them and never any problems. New rotors don't need truing up, that was a long time ago. If you wanted to go performance, get slotted, not crossed drilled. Drilled rotors crack at the holes. I had a set on my 1/2 ton axles, never saw any benefit vs. standard rotors. They do keep the pads cleaner, but these trucks aren't race cars. I put standard rotors back on, cost a ton less and brakes the same.
 
New rotors DO need turning. Bought a set for the wife's truck and they were out of spec. I learned a long time ago, anything manmade can and will change shape in shipping. All it takes is one idiot to drop a rotor and it will bend. Not much, but it will bend enough to give you a pulsing brake pedal.
 
I run power stop drilled rotors. every time I replaced rotors with stock they would warp with in a few months. haven't had to change my rotors for several years now. no cracks yet, still thinking of going to sloted though.
 
I have PowerSlot rotors on my 14b FF in my 79 C20. I also use Hawk pads with the high performance street compound. My boss also uses the same rotors and has used the severe duty pads on his dually. He had issues on his ford with warped rotors and the powerslot/hawk combo has solved the problem. Powerslot rotors don't rust as much as stock rotors, so they look a bit cleaner. The slots are only cut partially into the rotor, so that they don't crack and to retain as much structural metal as possible.
 
New rotors don't need truing up, that was a long time ago.

New rotors and drums for that matter should always be machined to make absolutely sure they are true. It is most important to machine a rotor that is mounted on a hub like our trucks otherwise there is NO WAY to make them true without the hub which is the center to which they need to be true.
