Front Shackle length

Hey guys, just wondering about shackle lengths for the front of k5's. I know that longer shackles push your pinion down. My question is how much longer can they be, i dont want more lift, just my friend has a set of daystar front shackles. A replacement thats thicker than stock shackles. The replacements are 8.75" long, looks to be about 1.5" longer than stock i believe. How would this effect pinion angle? Good? bad? Thanks guys

8.75" eye to eye or overall? If eye to eye, in my opinion that is far too long.

Factory is 4". That much longer would almost certainly have negative effects on the pinion angle unless for some reason it was altered the other direction from some other modification.

Also just remember that how ever much longer the shackle is from hole to hole will net you half that distance in lift.

Longer shackles arent really any better unless you move the mount for a better shackle angle...

i have a shackle that's 8" eye to eye & i can already tell i'm going to have to do something about the pinion angle. pinion is pointing down already with no d-shaft attached...that's with stock 52s moved forward but the shackle in the stock location. i agree that 8.75 is too much, but you could always try 'em out and redrill them to a shorter length.

once you relocate the shackle location forward, it'll be much better

x2... Becuase the shackle is at an angle the distance it rotates the pinion down is much less if anything notcieable at all...

Shane from BlackWidowPerformance sent me a set of 5" HD Front Shackles. They are awesome. They will not have an affect on the pinion angle as best as I can tell. Yes, they are 1" longer but that equates to only 1/2" difference. I will be installing them shortly on my 83 K10. Keep an eye, no pun intended, out in my post.... Manny's 83 K10, for details.

alright yeah i figured they were way to long. I dont want any more lift, i just wanted beefy shackles, guess ill be fabing up my own.

Just redrill them.. I think they are h shackles but that shouldnt be too big of a deal...

1/2" of lift but it still pushes the back of the spring down 1"... Now im not sure how much thats going to affect castor (or camber i dont remember) but its definetly going to have some affect on a stock style setup...
