Front Shackle relocation

will make it real simple.

if shackle is pointing anywere close to front axle then ride = hard.

if shackle is pointing to back axle = smother ride.

Ok, could you give an explanation as to way it would be that way?

The only time I can see that it would be true, is with stock front springs with negative arcs.
But who uses them anyway ;)

if shackle is pointing at front axle it gets stiffer as it has to over come the 90* mark and go grater than 90* to let the spring flatten out longer for the spring to work correctly.

fixed it for simple info

and this is why it needs to be this way to ride nice.

I'm beginning to think that at least the two of us is actually on the same page,
and we're just suffering from failure in communication :doah: :o

To put it simple and clear things up once and for all,
do you agree that this picture is wrong?

shackle bottom at spring eye needs to be to the back of our style trucks for best ride as tyhe spring flattens out to the rear.

if its forward it has to over come 90* center to swing to the back and let the spring flatten out and flex.

Forgive me for riding the slow train, but I guess I'm not following. Are you saying the longer spring serves to effectively "move" the hanger 1.5" forward without actually having to move it, or your experience has been that it's better to stay with the stock-length lift springs and move the hanger forward?

So based on what you're saying K30, how would you answer my earlier question about 49" springs?

not many have done the 49 swap that i have read . do recall a few that did tho.

if me have them build it so the axle gets 1-1.5" forward to help fight firewall clearence problems. but watch for steering if running stock push pull.

and if the 49" is longer on the back side only then that should be perfect to set the angle back were it needs to be if you ask me.

but like i said i have not played with 49" and or 52/56 swap my self yet.

and most any spring will ride better than rough country

Thanks! I think I may give some 49" a try.

Meant to add also that I have zero rates for the front, so if I went with the extra length on the back half, I should be good to go. I'll also be doing crossover steering, so that should be OK too.

if you ask me get new springs set to hight and get rid of zero rates. less in the system the better. but nothing wrong with zero rates also.

just make it all in 1 pack and be done with it.

I definitely see your point. I just figured since I had them I might as well use them. Either way, I think I'll give some 49s a try in one flavor or the other.

Thanks again for the insight.

Great then we really are on the same page :thumb:
