Front Shaft Pics

there was a thread on pirate not to long ago about making up shafts like this. i'm making one out of d60 stubs.

Yeah k30guy, they worked out great. I scew up a little. When I took my measurements the front end was on jackstands. I was not thinking about the stands being lower than the tires. So when it all wnt back together I am 3* of on my caster. I was shooting for 8* (which is stock) but now I am looking at 5*. We will see if I get any DW. Hopefully nou since everything in the front is new(TR's, DL's, BJ's, and Xover steering).

that's kick @$$

anybody have the link to the thread on pirate? I can't search over there...or is it basically the same as this one?

thanks

Hey mo. Thanks for the comp. I saw the one on Pirate too. It's pretty much the same idea but he was using a spacer. Not sure why. I thought I was the first to think about this until I saw that one. Regardless, I still have to prove that It will work. It should. I will let yall know as soon as it comes out of the shop. I hope to have it at a tractor pull sometime over the summer. That should be a good test. Keep the opinions coming!!!!

Looks good, I need to try that out on mine.

UPDATE. The shaft is in and seems to be working fine. There is no binding at full droop. I have not tried to kill it yet, but I did make a couple of neck snapping blasts across the back yard. (breaking all four tires loose) We will see if it lasts!:usaflag:

your not the only one that don't understand.

here's what i'm going to use with my d60 stubs.
9" of slip, 1350 u joint, 1.5" dia splines.

thats sweet. where did you get it?

That's a nice looking piece. You said your going to use 60 stubs. I'd like to see the pics of those two when your done. Are you going to use an adapter similar to mine or do you have another idea?

i'm going to have a piece made just like yours. it'll be 3/4" thick and machined on both sides to fit the stub and the flange. i'll take pics when it's done, with a what it cost.

Not exactly sure what you mean?

Instead of welding two pcs together, just machine the entire part. That way you assure everything is concentric and uniform material throughout. That's not a hard part to make.

Are you talking about machining the entire yoke? That would really be a pain. With tight tolerances and indicating the pieces you can keep everthing concentric. Besides this is for a front shaft that wont see extended rpm for long periods of time. I dont even have ib balanced. But the setup does run true.

got some progress done. had my adapter made, and the other pieces machined down. here is everything.

Sweet man!. Hope it works out for ya. Mine is still doing good. I still have not really romped on it yet. There is a truck pull on Aug. 4th I'm going to. That should be a good test. Keep me updated on the build:thumb:
