I know I'm a newb on this particular forum, but there seems to be a lot of expertise here, so I'm not afraid to ask. Let me start by saying that I've replaced several u-joints in my day and replaced the axle shaft joints in my '90 K5 just last week.

I've spent 2 hours searching this forum, youtube, and other sites to no avail looking for info on replacing these.

I've never messed with one of these before and would like to have a better understanding before tackling (and screwing it up). I know that I have to heat the yokes to remove the factory nylon retainers before pressing the caps out. My question is...how do you replace the "double u-joint" in the middle of this thing? The 2 joints seem to be "conected" in the middle and would love to see a write-up with pics or a video somewhere showing this procedure. I can either do this in my bench vise or on my press.

Thanks in advance...

The u-joints themselves aren't connected, the yokes they press into have a ball & socket arrangement that keeps them centered...I have done maybe 4 of those CV type u-joints,and I'd say they SUCK to do,much harder than a typical driveshaft u-joint..you need 4 hands!..but they go together the same way..mark everything before taking it apart so it can be put together in the same place too..

Thanks. I'ts nice to know the u-joints are simple joints that are not connected. I have already marked the ears to get everything lined back up correctly. I'm guessing that when the 1st joint comes out, there is a seperate assembly that rides between them?

I'll definitely have an extra set of hands to run the press and keep parts from going everywhere. Do you happen to know of a write-up on this replacement? If not, I plan on taking lots of pics for a clear write-up of my own and plan on collecting some sort of endorsement.
