ok so i did a search. only found a few pics of some peoples front setups...anyone got any more pics?

my dash speakers suck and need some mounting options. i was thinking of customizing something between the tranny hump and the lower dash since i think with power windows, the lower door section is not possible...not without some thin magnet speakers and ugly spacers..

The tranny option is not really good for imaging (since it would point the speakers outward vs inward but it would get me larger speakers. ideas? more importantly pics?

im really open to any ideas. im thinking the kicks are gonna be more difficult than fabbing a box up for the tranny hump. just need pics for ideas
 
Lol, this just reminded me of something I did when I was younger. I made a center console for my '69 Impala out of a corrugated cardboard box. I put a speaker in it and attached cup holders to it and it worked really well. Anyway, if you don't care about looks, just use cardboard and try different setups to see what you like the best:D

gnergy - took a look at that thread and your install looks great. id assume though that you went with the infinity's cause they were a thinner magnet? did you go through trial and error with different brands, or were the infinity's the first choice?
 
I rode in a friends van and he had Infinity speakers in it, and sounded real good. I don't remember if I measured first or just got them to fit. I had those in my 81 burb for about 6 yrs, and took them out to put in my 91. I put 6X9s in the back and mounted the amps under the front seats.

Don't abandon the idea of dash speakers. 6.5's in teh kick panels would be awesome, qlogic even sells some that fit i think.

I have the infinity reference 3.5's in the dash of my burb, powered from the deck, and they sound way better than i expected. The power handling is low, hence the deck power, but if you are getting your mids/lows from elsewhere, don't abandon this location. For a decent sound system (not SQ comp level), that location sounds good.

I'm going to put 6.5's in my doors as soon as i stop being lazy and build some spacers.
 
does anyone here run the q-logics? i might just want to run with them...just need a part number.

heres tha only pic i could find of mine...they are polk audio db6501 components...no amp as of yet on em but no problems with a 50 watt pioneer pushin em...were like $179/pair @ circuit city last year...
 
I don't see anything in the q logic crap that justifies a $200 price tag. For far less you can build a simple fiberglass enclosure that will fit in the kick panel area, or a pod to come off the door and angle the speaker for your ears. Much simpler to build even a simple wood box to mount to the door than spend that kind of money for a mount that doesn't even have speakers in it. They also will not hold a 6.5" speaker, and you would have to watch the tweeter diameter to ensure they would fit since it will only hold a 2" tweeter.

And having the tweeter down there is going to provide a very muffled sound from them. Just my opinions of course.
 
I just cut holes in my doors for pioneer 6x9s. Drilled a little hole in the door jamb and ran the wires through there, looks pretty good to me. Although I did have it a little easier since I have the m1009 and got to do all the stereo work from the start.

I got my Q-Logics off ebay for 90 bucks shipped. They are well worth the money. And they do fit 6.5". I am pushing Bostin Acoustic 6.5's and they sound great and are outta the way.
 
was that used for $90, if so thats lucky....ive been looking on ebay for awhile now and nothings there for our rigs.

true a fiberglass pod will be alot less money to build, but to have someone make em costs about the same as the qlogic stuff (depending on the shop), i could build them myself also, but the time invested isnt worth the savings. they do hold a 6.5 also, as far as only a 2 inch tweeter, every system i have ever installed only has 1in tweets.

you can find this stuff cheaper at stereo shops sometimes. the markup on audio stuff is huge so shops have a ton of wiggle room.
 
Here's what I did. Simple and cheap, although I did have to put a spacer between the door and the carpet, so the magnet wouldn't hit the power window stuff. Pioneer 3-way 6.5s in the doors, Pioneer 3-way 6x9s in the rear panels, 2 Premier 10s and a 900 watt amp.

I put these kick panels in, installed with Infinity 6.5 inch seperates . love the sound and imaging . They are bolt on pieces no cutting needed on your truck. Main disadvantage is mud/snow if your out in the muck and not watching your feet when you get back in ..lol


Wont let me post the link yet . havent posted 15 times ....

Do a search for q logic kick panel they have one for the the k-5s and burbs.

I found mine for about 90 bucks . took some internet scouring though
