How does everyone on here feel about running a spool in the front axle if you have manual hubs that you can unlock for driving on the street? I have a front 10 bolt axle with 4.10 gears running 35x12.50s. Does anyone out there run this setup without any problems?

Yes, if you have manual locking hubs you wont even know its there while driving on the street with the hubs unlocked.

From what i have read, your 10bolt front axle will not like a spool. Since the spool is a solid link between both axle shafts there is alot more stress on the axles themselves causing them to fail.

I may be wrong, but to me an automatic locker would a better option because there is a little be of give that will let the axle shafts survive a bit longer. Either way, 10bolts and D44s dont liked to be loced with anything over a 33inch tire.

My vote would be the front so that it didnt mess with day to day driving at all but its really your call. No matter which end you put it in it will it will make a big difference in your trucks ability.

i ran a mini spool in the front of my 10 bolt for a little while. i have warn premium hubs. didn't notice anything in 2wd. in 4wd i could not turn. i blew a u joint in my rear drive shaft and drove home about 2 mile with my front. would not turn on the street unless i unlocked one hub. used it one trip offroad and absolutely hated it. seemed like 10 point turns all day long. took out the mini spool and put it in the rear. i put a detroit ez locker in the front i bought off ebay for 160. i love it. it is exactly the same as a lock right. i never had put one in before and it was very simple. acts like a limited slip when you turn. as soon as you give it some gas it locks. amazing difference with all 4 wheels spinning. no problems with it all. the mini spool in the rear makes the tires churp all the time. people always looking like i'm hotrodding. sounds like the rear will easily break on the street just backing up and turning. i am easy on it and don't drive it much. i can also go most places offroad in 2wd with just the rear driving that was impossible before. i am also running 3.08 gears with 35" bfg mt's on stock wheels.

Thanks for the posts guys. I think I'm going to try to find a Lock-Rite for the front.
