I know its not our normal here but I got a buddy that needs front rebuilt on his 63 c-10 .

he wants to swap to power steering box and disk brakes up front .

what can we use from a doner truck like a mid 80's c-10 ?

thanks for info or links to good write ups.

IIRC, everything from the knuckle out can be swapped over to disc. 73-91 prolly would work, course earlier stuff will be SAE over metric. Rez makes a power steering "kit" if you wanna call it that to bolt on a steering box.

Check this link out, lots of info....http://64moneypit.pages.qpg.com/

another question .

could I just unbolt and swap the whole a-arm from 1 to the other ?

reason I ask is his front end needs all the bushings . its not that I cant do it but its a budget rebuild is all and I have a 2wd frame I can pull this stuff from .

You could probably roll the entire front suspension off the newer truck under the '64...I'm not sure how different the front frame rails are on the pre-72 trucks are compared to newer ones, but they are probably very similar..
I know "Brothers" used to sell P/S conversion kits for the 50's pickups, they might have one for 60-66 also..

The real question is why not roll a dana 44 or dana 60 under it now instead..:D

Then the easier way to go would be to roll the whole crossmember and front suspension under the 64,and use the disc brake dual master cylinder, that'll make the brakes a lot safer...
I think the suspension may bolt right up,if not,you should be able to drill some holes and bolt it on..

did some digging and found some guys say the whole front end unbolts and is a virtual bolt in with few holes to drill .

then just buy 6 lug aftermarket brake rotors .

this will get him miles ahead by doing this swap .

That's what I figured,I recall a guy buying the whole front crossmember & suspension off a '79 GMC C-10 we had at the junkyard to put under a earlier truck (60-66) and he said it was not a difficult swap..
I dont recall what the master cylinder looks like on a 60-66 truck,or if a later dual one will bolt right up,or if a later booster would work on one either..
There is likely something factory that will work, other forums might have some info on that..

You might find rotors that'll fit and have 6 lugs off an early G series van--I'm not positive but I think the 71-72 G-10's had 6 lugs, then they went to a 5 lug 5" bolt pattern in '73 (I think!)--...as long as they take the same wheel bearings I bet they are the same otherwise...

SweetK30 Buddy an I did this on my wife's 67 C10 and rolled entire front cross member and had to drill think 2 extra holes in it(I'd ask but he past away :frown1:) . Parts are cheaper and you can remember what you have easier. If he wants to lower ECE will sell a split kit but be sure to let them know what you have there and talk to Stan. Brandon

I looked up the rotors,I was wrong--the '71 G10's still had 5 lugs ,but with the "car" 4-3/4" bolt circle...not 5" like later 2wd 1/2 tons..
I could swear there was a stock 6 lug rotor on something though that works....maybe not..:dunno:

Can't remember who but someone makes a 6 lug rotor for the later 2wd drive trucks for this type conversion. Check over on 67-72 C10 forum they know there trucks and worship them lol. Love any old Chevy truck here.

Tx Firefighter has always been a big help along with others there! Some pretty wild rides over the in 2wd for trucks on that sight, just don't go looking at dinos builds!!!!

post 10 gives ECE part numbers I would order from them any day over CPP. Stand up guys and always answer phone/questions you have for them. Want the best pay to play worth the $$$$.

i did a 65 c10 a few years ago and swapped the whole cross member and steering box the only thing that was a little challenging id the steering column to steering box
