Front Tow Hooks

Factory tow hooks IMO are not sufficient for a fullsize truck that sees alot of mud. Definately try to find some of the big truck/equipment tow hooks. You will just have to drill mounting holes in your frame.

I've never had any problems with the factory front towhooks on my '90 and they have been used hard many times, including two other vehicles hooked in tandem pulling me out of some deep mud. When I made a front winch bumper I reused the factory hooks but remounting them to a higher location.

What ever you bolt 2 has a weld somewhere so is the weld stronger or the bolts?

Not necessarily............the factory towhooks are mounted in a way where there are no welds directly or indirectly holding them on, and my custom front bumper is setup the same way.

Good luck finding the factory hooks. They are not bolted in the same manner that the ones from Autozone. The factory hooks are curved at the top and the bolts are off-set in the way they bolt to the frame. IMO - very strong and capable, but they are hard to find. I was fortunate and saw some sitting in a pile at a swap meet. Picked the set of them up for $5.

Are the autozones tow hooks good enough, how bout the 4wp...cause its hard to find the factory ones.

Are the autozone hooks factory replacements?

I have a hard time finding factory hooks around here as well. I just found a set, gonna go get them tomorrow, but I got a buddy that is looking for hooks for his '81 Jimmy.

Use these babies. Factory CUCV stuff, four bolts to the frame and a shackle provision. :thumb:

I like the CUCV mounts, I had a set on my truck until I F'd up my front end the other weekend. I'll probably go back to how I had my suburban setup, with a front tow hitch. I prefer that, because I have several "accessories" for a 2" reciever. I have two 2" straps that work perfectly in there, or a tow hook, or something to mount a shackle to. It's nice having options.

I'm looking at this pic

and I'm thinkin' that you're a sick Monkey! !Laugh!

Can't wait to see the whole truck once you're done.
