OK, I'm about to do this too, and it doesn't get more rookie than me. So explain yourself! What can I expect when that grinder meets the metal??

SPARKS!!!
he he he, yeah im a jacka$$....
UT to be honest i will help you out.
maybe it is more of an arizona thing, BUT once you start to remove metal, by any method, die cutter die grinder, shears, torch, sawzall(my fav!!!) or by biting it, kicking it and yelling at it, IT GETS ADDICTING. so... get a game plan. measure it 3 times, check it twice and cut it untill you are happy....
ill tell ya now, go slow, and take your time. cut just before your line. you can ALWAYS go back and take more off, it is hard to add more, but can be done.
NOW, unless ya want to look like me, marv, russ and brian, all guys in AZ on this site will very little metal left, do as i sugested. but if you are happy with powertools in your hand and that much less weigh on your truck, MOVE TO AZ AN JOIN THE CLUB!
if you need any help ask around, ill be more than glad to help. ya just got to drive out here.

Pay attention to which direction the disc spins. use the grinder one way and it will pull away from you and be somewhat easy to control...use it the other way and it will try and drive itself towards you and be more difficult to control.

As per usual wear a full face shield, some sort of non flammable gloves and a long sleeve shirt and jeans. The sparks are pretty...pretty friggin hot! They will burn through clothes if they are aimed in one direction for too long. You'll figure that out easily enough.

One more thing on sparks....don't let them hit any glass, like windshields or side windows. The sparks will pit the glass almost instantly. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

i used a 4 angle grinder when i cutout the fenders on my old cherokee as long as you hold it steady and dont mind minor imperfections it will be alright. i do wish i had somethin else for angled cuts though.
