Front - Weld, Lock, or LimitSlip

Excuse me? /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif
Speak for yourself, chief. It seems kinda ironic that you consider yourself a curb crawler yet you jump on the bandwagon and start pointing fingers.

You haven't the slightest idea of how I wheel, where I wheel, and what I wheel.

I am usually not one to get into a pissing match, especially with an inferior opponent, so I will leave this post alone. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Ben, you got a real attitude problem for a newbie. You should rein in that cockiness at least until you've been here awhile.

Everyone makes mistakes, the angle of that picture makes that diff a little hard to distiguish. The giveaway to me that it is a 10 bolt rather than a 44 is the lack of the holes on the sides of the diff that the case spreader goes into. The angle makes it a little hard to tell if the cover is perfectly round or not.

No attitude problem here.

I have no problem with mistakes, I make them all the time /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif I come here for info just like everyone else and enjoy the helpfulness of most folks.

My problem with zakk's post about curb crawlers was based on the fact that rather that saying "oops, my bad" he resorted to name calling. That takes some real balls, especially when he was incorrect.

No harm done. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Which is my point about you being a noob. If you had been here for awhile you would know that that is just Zakk's style. I'm pretty sure that he was not name calling, that's just his style, he was making a joke.

My point stands, Noobs shouldn't throw stones until they have a good feel for the different users and their various styles of posting.

Well, it was my bad. and the Noob's take on it was wrong.

As Evan politely pointed out, my style is not to bash, especially those that fill out their profile.

The curb thing is a Joke. and arguing on the internet is lame. I could have fired back with the normal "your a bloobie" or "newbie" crap. It was an honest mistake. I drink alot. The voice talk to me. I argue with myself and lose. and to top it off, no one listens to the phat kidz.

Have a  and relax. My axle ID skills might have been off that day, but the point stands, Burbans are heavy and break sheit. no way around that.

Oopsie, looks like Beast isn't a noob, I conveiniently missed the "01" at the end of his registered on date and went with the "02". Anywho, sorry about that... Let the feathers fly...

still, not much of an contributor /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif But he does have his profile filled out.

atleast m_j posts tech and ruffles feathers at the same time.

I duuno...i like m-j. guy seems to know a bit of everything, which is invaluable to a board.

oh...and btw...this thread has been hijacked. we now return you to your normally scheduled posting /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey, hey, getting back to the important things here... *me*

Just kidding /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But will an axle truss help a 10 bolt out alot? I dont think MOO makes one for the front... MOO, you listening. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

A good salid axle truss will help prevent he bending, but just remember that no matter how hard you try, You can't polish a turd. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

yeah, but clearance issues is a real pain for me. I have to take my k5 on heap trails. The widths are all funky.Unless I move p to 37's I'd drag a 14B. None of the stinkin ruts match!

Did you shave the 14 bolt yet? You can gain a good inch there...

make it into a 13bolt /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Fella over on the PBB did that. thing was sick /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Why is there some much b-itching going on in this thread? I found out that the D44 differencial is pretty strong, and upgrading the axles to chrome-molys and getting CTM u-joints is really strong. My buddy told me that a D60's are very hard to come by. /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

Upgrading the shafts and joints is all well and good. It works great, except that the weak point ends up being the ring gear. Ask me how I know... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

especailly with the CTM's. KidJethro also seems to go through R&P sets faster than most people go through underware.

Even though the thread was highjacked, the point remains, if you are dead set against breakage of any kind (as your inital post points out) you will not be happy with a D44.

Rockwells are pretty cheap.

The story behind that broken 10 bolt is as follows...this extreeeeeme burb as it was called is on extreeeeeme 31" tires. He decided to launch his burb in the air numerous times over a dune and finally broke it on a landing. When you launch a Suburban (even a K5) over a dune and catch 5 feet of air, you're gonna break the axle. I've seen the same thing happen to a Dana 60. Solid axles are just not made for hardcore jumping...it's better left to IFS.
As to 12 and 14 bolt front ends...believe it or not, they do exist but they are entirely custom. Who would waste money on converting a rear 12 bolt to a front axle? I have no idea, but I have seen a 14 bolt FF front end in Petersen's 4 wheel mag. Supposedly, you get a 14 bolt center section and put on D60 axle tubes.
What it comes down to is this...you rock crawl? Get a D60. You mess in mud and the occasional hill climb? A D44 with strong joints and shafts will do just fine.
For the front, unless you rock crawl, put a limited slip in it. Locking the rear will do wonders for you, and the added limited slip front will help even more.
