Front Wheel Stud Replacement

How much will a shop charge to do this? Anyone know of a place around grand rapids Michigan that can do this? I have a haynes manual that I can check the specs for torque on the spindle nuts

It was around $10 last time I went to have the orignal U joints pressed out.

Well that isn't too bad. Now I need to find a shop open on Saturday. I was hoping to have everything back together today

Come on... you can hammer them yourself, just get a vise to hold the hub and the disc together.

you can't get a hammer down there though. I tried using a flat chisel but that didn't work either. Also tried flipping an old stud upside down on the new stud and hit that with a hammer, that didn't work either

Mine went in quickly, put them upside down (hub down and obcourse a piece of wood underneath) then with another piece of 2x4 y started tapping away until i got the im

use a heavy sledge hammer, get an 3/8 extention that your willing to throw away and some vice grips clamped to the middle of the extention to get a handle on it, and hammer away. I use a center pin from an old 12 bolt I had laying around to drive them in.

This trick worked. Picked up a set of manual hubs and new brake pads that will go in next. Thanks for the tips

If you have an air compressor, and air hammer does wonders with these. I zipped mine out and back in with a fury.

You do have to get the outer spindle nuts really tight for them to stay tight and not let the hub flop around. It's the inner ones that preload the bearings. They won't end up being very tight. Look in a Haynes book, though. It will tell you how tight the outer ones need to be.
