The 78 k5 has 4 fuel lines. 3/8 in the main line and the smaller line 1/4 (i think) is the return. I just replaced one of the lines. I had to custom bend it to fit. This rquired significant work. The line had a clog in it and after removal I found it had rusted thru in a spot. yikes. anyways it is such a pain toremove , bend new lines and reinstall. The brackets that mount the lines are shared with the brake lines. Just more to mess up with. The other 3 fuel lines look rusted but the hold vacume and I assume have not rusted thru.

Anyways what I would like to do is get a good fuel filter both for the carb. Since I also have a new tank I would also like to filter the gas from the return line before it goes into the tank. Can I place two fuel filters? I read that the only place I can put the filter is after the pump. Would it be ok to put a filter on the return line just before the tank?

no.... there's no need/want to filter the return.. serves no purpose.. anything being returned, is clean...

feed? you can run 2, heck, if your running a quadrabog, you're already running 2...

There is a "sock" inside the tank anyways, so you are getting double filtration, assuming you have something else outside the tank.

I understand what you are saying, the return lines may be rusty/full of junk, and you don't want that getting into the tank.

Unfortunately, the "right" answer is to replace the lines. As you've said, real hassle, but do you REALLY want to deal with the potential failure of a fuel line?

yeah, i'd say the return fuel is too clean to worry about.

i have two filters; one before the pump and one after and i don't use the stock filter in the quadrajet. i replaced my hard lines with rubber when i swapped engines. i didn't like the routing of the factory lines at all. a pita to get to and they ran right alone the block and passenger side head. that just seems like asking for vapor lock. i've been running this setup for about 4 years now with great results.

Vor- I just did this myself, are you worried about blowing yourself up at all by doing this- the thought crossed my mind, knowing how hot my exhaust and such items down there get- I tied everything up the best i could and ran my lines outside on the frame as far away from the exhaust manifold and pipes as possible, but still have this underlieing feeling i will catch myself on fire one day for doing this...

Waz- Man i have had 2 filters on my lines for 2 years now- one between the fuel tank and the pump (Going into the pump) and another between the pump on the carb. I have a glass one between the pump and carb to get a visable of gas flow and I just recently learned that the one these things blow up quite often? Anyone here comfirm this ? myth?

but as for the RETURN LINE- this is called a VAPOR RETURN LINE and should only be pushing excess vapors back to the tank- there shouldn't be a need for a filter on the vapor return line.

Please for the love of god get rid of the glass filter... they sell plastic replacements anywhere. Your just cruisin for a flash fire in an accident or even if ya catch a real bad pothole...

Wtf are the 4 lines for? When I had my monte carlo ss (same qjet setup) it was one line from the pump to the carb, thats it! Hell my TBI truck dont even have 4.

ditch the hardline and replace it with soft line. Put one inline PLASTIC filter between the pump and the carb and ditch the incarb filter.
