i just got a 82 chevy blazer and i found a switch connected to the fuel filter. is it suppose to be there??

The fuel filter? Are you sure it's not a fuel pump? I know ppl sometimes ditch the manual pumps in favor of an electric pump, and they sometimes run them by a switch. Does it have wires going to it and the switch mounted in the cab? Or does it have an actual switch on the body?

i looked it up on the net and it said fuel filter. the filter is mounted under the truck and there is a switch in the truck that i followed and it led to the filter. when i turn the switch on the filter makes a buzzing sound

yea the truck runs with it off. i just want to know if i need to turn it on or how its suppose to work

It's not factory, so no telling why its there.

Probably installed to replace the stock mechanical fuel pump and they couldn't get it to work right.

I would imagine someone probably had some vapor locking issues so they added a booster pump.

With the switch set to the off position, could it be a theft deterent device?

No fuel no start? or am I way off

the maker of the part is napa auto parts and the model # is 3033. if i leave the switch on the filter stays on and u can hear it buzzing. so if im driving do i need it on?

The buzzing most likely just means it's running. As mentioned the PO probably put it on there. Why? Who knows?

when I went to Napa's site the part number you listed is a basic inline fuel filter. no wires. My geuss is that you have a electric fuel pump mounted somewhere very close to this filter. see how long the truck will run with the switch turned off. if the tank has gas and the truck shuts off after a few minutes then you have an electric pump controlled by the switch. Or take a picture and post it so we can see what you are talking about.
