Fuel filter

How do I determine the best fuel filter for my truck?
Blue print 383 motor.
I'm wanting to reroute the fuel line & change the filter to a clear one.
The current line is the rubber hose type, is there a reason I should or shouldn't change the line to the block to a hard line.
I would like the line to be routed cleaner & or if the way.
I'm no mechanic & my questions are very basic, thanks for any input.

I would think any standard inline filter would work. I assume they list the filter rating as in filters to 5 microns as an example. Not sure why you want a clear one, do you suspect the tank is dirty? I would stick with a metal one, not like you need to change them very often and plastic is not as durable. Maybe running around in all that sand… they say it gets everywhere, none of that in my neck of the woods. Only when putting in a new fuel pump have I changed filters… just because.

Hard lines don’t melt, a plus in my mind. On the flip side Derek Bieri seems to get away with using sketchy fuel systems all the time.

yep stay away from the glass clear one with the clean able screen, it doesn't filter well and it could leak. Best place for a filter one a carburated square is either back at the tank before the hard line, or in the front between the hard line and the fuel pump.
I highly discourage any fuel filter above the fuel pump, or intake, as this is a fire hazard. If you are still running a Quadrajet the fuel filter in the inlet is exceptable, and keep the hard line from the pump to carb inlet.
Aftermarket carbs try to use as much hard and as little hose as possible, this will reduce the failure and leak hazard. The soft hose is a maintenance item, and should be inspected every oil change, for cracks, soft spots, bulges, exe.
